Default I hate car painting !!!

Now I know why you take your body parts to a professional place to have it done.
Attempted to do a repair on a bumper yesterday and today. Got all the correct stuff, paint colour matched, primer and clearcoat.
Rubbed down the affected area, wet and dry and all lovely prepped.
Then primered it, rubbed that down, two coats of colour lightly done and that rubbed down with wet and dry fine. Then two light coats of top coat.

Then got the machine polisher out and cut it and then polsihed it.

Stodd back and thought...that is so ****e !!
The colour does not match for a start, my blending looks like stevie wonder had a go, orange peel everywhere.

I hate ****ing car painting

It can be a real bind trying to match new paint to an old and inevitably faded car, as for the orange peel - that's kinda down to you and the weather mate!

Best left to the pro's. Or prep it to save yourself a little but let them do the finishing. At least you had ago first.

The orange peel has really got me down
I thought I had really done everything right and did the spraying in the greenhouse with dust sheets everywhere so nice and clean.

If it's just the orange peel you can wet flat it and polish it up using G3.

I think I may do that but tell the bodyshop that I got the bumper like that when I bought the car

The colour shouldn't be that far out then, the paint is normally good

Had the same problem mate, got paint mixed at halfords spent ages rubing down. It wasn't a bad job, but the paint was slightly darker, which was weird as the guy who did the job in the end said there was only one variation. Masda he did once had 35 variations

But in the end got half of bumper resprayed for 90 pounds nice

Round these parts we've got a man in a van called Bump 'n Scuff. He did a whole rear bumper for less than 200 notes with a perfect match.

Think it may be a national franchise.

Got sick of working for myself and went to work for caterpillar painting articulated trucks. I kept my garage for nearly a year while working for cat for my own work but recently gave it up due to working weekends at cat

Well sorted in the end. Turns out it was the top coat that was the problem. Thanks Paulo you are a star.

Got some more wet and dry and flatted it back then using the rotary I cut it back and polished it and now looks perfect (well when I say perfect, its 100% better than it was at midday today )

Only mine as I need the car to get to work. Just managed to fit it all back about an hour ago and have a quick shower before dinner so I never had the time to do Zoe's because I have it in the greenhouse ready for a final polish and clean before fitting it. Need to clean up the tiger seal etc, refit lights and then pop it back on and see how it looks ready for its detail next weekend

How did it go putting the splitter back on? Did those brackets work out better?

Wouldn't get to disheartened by the orange peal fella, after years of working in bodyshops even the "PRO'S" get orange peal, and most/all of them have to be flatted and polished, also it doesn't help using arsehole cans, they make the paint so p155y thin so you can get it out the can at a much lower pressure.

my best mate's a painter and his gun finish is unreal one of the best i've seen but we still flat and polish his job's to get it flatter than a peice of glass but the comments are always worth the effort

may be next time don't flat the base coat as your getting rid of the fade between the new paint and old

i don't know how these people can do some of the jobs on here so cheap (not disputeing anyone) might have to get them to do our pj's and then put our bit on top
