A big thanks to Duncan from Racedynamix for the remap he did on Wednesday
The car is completly different now and i'm well happy
I just need to sort a small niggling issue that i didnt notice until being able to drive the car quick on the twisties today ... sounds like the steering uj is catching the downpipe whilst on throttle and steering at about 1/4 turn then disapeers

Im having the same problem too Barty. I got my remap from Graham of enginemapper.co.uk though. Are you running a 3inch turbo back exhaust as well ? Been advised to perhaps knock a little dent in the downpipe when it is hitting on the steering rack.

Yes i am mate ... its a Japspeed one, its funny you can drive at normal speeds round town and its fine... open her up and you just feel like you cant drive the car properly. i am doing a trackday at the end of the month so i will need to try and sort it before then.

yeah its because of the extra half inch on the downpipe thats why its knocking on open throttle. if you find a solution other than having to knock a slight dent in the downpipe let me know too will you Barty ? top man .

I must admit the standard engine mounts arent really all that good. I have been told to replace them with poly aftermarket mounts. Too much engine movement with the standard rubber items which long term wise cant be too good especially if the car gonna be underload quite often and hitting trackdays.

Would downpipes which go from 3" > to 2.5" be affected in this way too, or only downpipes which are 3" all the way through? As I am yet to find a decat downpipe which is 2.5" all the way through. I can only assume the turbo outlet is 3".

I've had the same problem for a few months, and it's been getting worse over the last few days.
Finally found the problem this evening..... the heat shield on the up-pipe has come loose, and is touching the steering UJ.
Worth checking.

i only noticed the knocking after having a remap and increasing the boost to 1.5bar. Its only a slight knock under open throttle, cruising around is fine, doesnt knock at all. Im guessing its where the engine jolts back when you put your foot down hence causing the knock. But defo have a look at the uppipe heatshield though. Although in my case, i was told my downpipe was knocking on my streering rack. might invest in some upgraded engine mounts.

not running one .... so i can rule that one out
i would say it would effect any 3" downpipe ... most that reduce to 2.5" only reduce at the end and not at the top. i would say you only have a few mm clearance between the DP and the UJ so any engine movement and it will hit.
I'm supprised i hadnt seen any threads on this beforehand
i only wanted a 2.5" DP to go with the rest of the system i had but couldnt buy one anywhere without paying stupid amounts

well ive had a good look at this today and it is the steering UJ thats hitting the downpipe when the engine is under load. so the only options i can see that might sort the issue is uprated engine mounts or a large Hammer
