My black Type R is running around 370bhp. I'd be more worried about the gearbox TBH.

Black type R, that will take some finding. Rare colour that. Don't think I've ever seen one.
STI bottom ends are stronger than UK/WRX ones and guys on here are running them at +350, but that doesn't mean they won't break. A pal of mine done his at 305 !!.
If you can find a well looked after one with decent service record you 'should' be ok at sub 350. But as said above, V4 type R's used a 752 box which are notoriously weak and don't seem to like 350+.

Standard type R too 400bhp,,
You either have bags of spare cash or your in a dream world. If only 'reliable' 400 was that easy. It's expensive fella, trust me .

A nice type R with decent brakes, suspension setup and running 330 would make a great driving car, would also be a hell of alot cheaper too.

Reliable 400 for starters-
Forged engine or later STI bottom end,
Stand alone management,symtek-syvecs-motec-powerFC
Uprated box, later 754 or 6speed,
Turbo, MD series or 20G on meth etc
Exhaust system, manifold etc
Intercooler,
Injectors,
Induction,
Etc etc etc etc etc
The list goes on and on. Add those few bits up and you'll see just how expensive it is.

And it's not just the power that makes a fast driving car buddy, a 330 well setup impreza would destroy a '400' bhp golf through the twisties.

400bhp from a golf? Really?

2dr will be a type r, not type ra.
And have seen a few black ones.
As some one has said, £5k to mod to 400bhp at least.

And that won't be a reliable 400bhp either.
I would say factor £10k for that what with uprated block and gearbox.
330bhp type r would kill your 400bhp golf!

What do you mean by 'standard comp', please don't tell me a standard 1.8 golf engine took 400 horses. No chance, maybe the rollers you used were a bit generous. About 200 bhp generous.
Get a spec list up fella, I have a bit of knowledge with golf turbo, in the process of modding a friends at the minute.

cant really comment on spec as iv only had it 3 weeks and had to sell it and did have a graph to prove bhp.I took it as part ex on another car hence why im after a scoob .true a scoob will distroy it off the line and twisties but midrange the golf would be faster.

My mates vr6 turbo was nightmare as always braking something. That was running around 375-400bhp, it was un-useable power as it just spun the wheels all the time. Would be interested what spec the 1.8t was, as i know what was put into the vr6 turbo.

It's a nice car and neil has been trying to sell it for weeks.

He's breaking it if it doesn't sell and thats a crying shame. If I had £4K I'd take his bloody arm off for it!

Good colour as well..
