Default Comparison - standard blob wrx vs standard 182 cliosport cup

Owned scoobies for some time thinking of going sport 182, was wondering what peoples opinion were regarding the two taking into account the following:

acceleration, ride, comfort, handling etc

Looking for something cheaper on insurance and better mpg.

I think the 182 cup would be faster than the wrx, I was in a friends 172 and it was pretty nippy.

drove my impreza around the nurburgring........its a bit far from standard so used a friends standard wrx and then hired a clio now it wasn't a 182 it was the 2010 197 cup.

my conclusion was for speed the impreza had it not just beaten but wooped was unimpressed in the clio's lack of torque........gear box of the Clio is one of the worst I have used its long and with 6 speed there was no need.......should have been 5 speed.

However handling.........it had the WRX beaten hands down........I've never driven a more planted standard car which oozes with confidence than the Clio 197 cup........I had that much confidence in it that I was overtaking motors far superior, and when the rain come out I was even eating M3's and Porsche GT3, granted the ring does get greasy in certain areas, and some say the 172/182 chasis are better again......I just hope the gearbox ain't as bad

I'd pick a good TDi every day of the week over a 172/82.
If you like wring the neck of your cars then you might find them ok. Be prepared however - get caught off cam and you will get your **** handed to you by reps in their vectras and the like every day of the week.

the clio 182 is not a cheap car to insure,i have one as a daily runner and the insurance is nearly as much as my scoob with all the mods on it.as for an all round good fun car then it takes some beeting.

I liked my wides 182 cup and loved the way you can throw it into bends but it not a turbo and only a 2 litre . She's got a new type r Honda now and that's a good engine

The 172/182 will give you a bit of grief in a standard WRX, however a 172 tried it on with me a couple of weeks ago, I let him get right alongside dropped it to 4th and bye bye Clio.

I do like them though, nearly bought one myself but got the Scoob instead.
The Missus has a 1.2 16v Clio and even that handles very well for what it is.

My friend has a tricked up clio 182 and there is always something wrong with it, it like electrical gremlins, spends more time on his drive. Now my experience with french cars are yes there fun to drive like my 1993 clio 16v (But I wish i still had it) There a nightmare, floor it and the door handles fall off, the build quality rubbish, engines are always a nightmare to work on. My advice would be dont get one. Spend your money on something else. Although the only clio I would buy would be a V6.

its only just better on mpg than a standered wrx, and the insurance isnt overly cheaper, they are fun to drive but i dont like how torque steery they are. auxillary belts are due every 36k and there a bastered to do.

the 197 is a different car to the 182/172.

The 172 certainly feels quicker but thats probably because its a smaller car.If you hoof them they can mop fuel pretty good and the road tax aint that cheap.I did a steering rack on one the other day and there not easy to work on,the scars are only just healing

Insurance fully comp
£800 clio £1600 wrx

big jump in the insurance however I also thought the mpg would be vastly different also but according to some of the posts doesn't seem so.

As i couldn't be arsed screwing it's neck my 172 got 33/34 mpg and was mostly used on the M1 @ 80ish
When i did put my foot down for a few miles here and there it would dive down to 29/30mpg. If i put my foot down more, i would expect to see towards 25mpg from it, but i never did as it was tiring.
