New to this forum but I'm looking to get a low mileage RB5 later this year. Anyone got any advice for me ? Don't like the new Impreza at all, so the older model will be just right. Don't have an Impreza as yet, but have been determined to get one since a test drive last year. Looked at imported WRX, but insurance quotes are coming in at silly prices (even though I'm used to paying a lot for insurance). Will be spending between £20k and £24k. I've seen some at the right spec within this price range.

You should be able to pick up a PPP RB5 for about 21-22K with around 15K miles on it from a Scooby dealer. When I bought mine last year there were 2 for sale one without the performance pack and one with, the price difference was a grand so I went for the PP car. There are a few around so good luck and welcome to the club.

Ryan,
Im from your neck of the woods, be warned that Manchester has some of the highest premiums in the country, im 32 with full no claims and im paying 1k on a standard uk turbo (my00) with prodrive alloys, its going to be a little more expensive with jap imports as parts are harder to get, fuel is another burden, be prepared to have shares in super unleaded fuel venders lol!!
but a prodrived wr is the better RB5 to go for

Cool

The insurance companies do not differentiate between the PPP RB5 and the non PPP RB5, so you might as well get the PPP one.Check it out! However expect to pay more than a normal Impreza Turbo for either version.

Hi Ryan,

I agree with Greg, all the insurance companies I spoke too didn't differentiate between the PPP and non-PPP, but the RB5 is a lot more expensive to insure than a std scoob. Although not all agreed, I think it's group 19 or even 20 to some companies.

I've just turned 28, 5yrs NCD and from a cr4p post code. Adrian Flux were the cheapest at £762. Check out

I did manage to get a quote for £1500 which I thought was quite reasonable. The was for 3 years NC (had a bump a while back on black ice) 3 points for SP30 and including the wife (both 25) which brought the quote down by a few quid. As I normally pay £1000 to £1200 for a 306 GTi I thought it was a decent insurance quote.

However, did get scared when I was quoted £8400 for a WRX STi. Hmmm...

The reason the quotes don't always differ is becuase most of them don't realise what the difference is - it is up to _you_ to ensure that they are fully aware of the car's spec.

I got a couple of quotes where there was no difference - until I checked with them and made sure they put the 240BHP & 260lb/ft torque and then the story was a little different.

Talk to Rum - see if he can get you a good deal - he did for me
