Question 05 STI remap prep

Ok, I'm in the process of collecting parts ready for a remap and so far i have......

Prodrive down pipe
H&S 2nd decat pipe
H&S centre section
Prodrive back box
K&N panel filter(fitted)

I still need to purchase a new fuel pump as recommended by most people but want to know if there are any other parts i have over looked that would benefit the car come remap time. I'm not after mega power just the normal "fun road car" performance.

Should i expect to need a new set of gaskets and bolts for the exhaust system and if so who can supply them?

I plan to give the car a service also(oils filters...)

Any advice is appreciated

Similar mods to my 05 STi and pulled 330bhp on the rollers with 350lbft.

Get gaskets mate, check they're not already supplied with the exhaust parts. If not give mark @ lateral performance a call. he's got everything you need and i found him very helpfull.

Thanks, they were not supplied with the other exhaust parts. I have seen the full set on RCM's website but they are about £140 for everything. Will give Mark a call and see what he can do.

Just a couple more questions.

Is heat wrap a good idea on the Prodrive down pipe, I'm thinking protection rather than performance.

and would i benefit from a 3 port boost solenoid, is it essential?

Thanks

The heat wrap is not essential on your downpipe, but since you are removing the center cat, it will help the prodrive cat at MOT time to be more effective.

The 3 port boost solenoid is not needed at your level on tune. Its needed when higher levels of boost are going to be used.

Apart from that with the mods you are doing you should see 330bhp with similar torque. I achieved around those figures on my old blobeye STi

Sounds great lofty. Use genuine Subaru gaskets only, from any main dealer. I hope you've got an experienced remapper ready!

Make sure that its got either new or fairly fresh plugs
And if you can get one for the right money, then I'd get a 3 port solenoid now.

Going to get all new gaskets from my local dealership, i had a quick look under the car while it was on MOT the other day and everything looks very orange and crust all up and down the exhaust.

I have had a very small chat with JGM and i think that is where my money will end up going (Ecutek)

It might be worth trying import car parts for the gaskets, genuine subaru and usually cheaper than most places.

They are well priced but i think i'm going with the dealers as i can check what i'm buying before i pay, don't fancy getting caught out when fitting myself

If they have them in stock that is! If not then they'll want you to pay up front and if they're anything like my dealer they'll be about as helpful as a kick in the nuts. The guys at ICP are pretty helpfull if you get stuck.

From your list you just need the stock gaskets by the looks of it, so shouldn't be too much drama. Does the h&s centre have the same design as std? Ie donut gasket where it meets your 2nd decat pipe?

Definitely wrap the down pipe mate, It will help the sports cat at MOT time and keep the temp down in the engine bay, You will need the good stuff tho so give a PM top Harvey as his stuff is great, I have had it on mine for 2.5 years and its still perfect you can actually hold your hand on the pipe with the car up to temp and the wrap is just warm.

My 05 STI has:

-wrapped downpipe
-prodrive centre and rear section,
-3 port boost solenoid,
-panel filter
-walbro pump
-opensource remap

....and its making around 345bhp, feels great on the road too, plenty of power and torque

You will notice some differance come Friday once its mapped

You know me Dunx I'm in no rush to get massive power, i just want the fun factor.

I'll put the kettle on not sure what time we will finish but we are starting around 09:00.

Car is in my Dads garage at the moment will i be OK to drive it back to my house (obviously off boost very slow for 2 miles) or would i be best to just leave it as is?

Thumbs up

Well as promised Simon turned up at 09:00 on the dot and got to work on my car. I thought the day was going to be cut short when i drove the car out of my dads garage only to find smoke coming off the turbo which turned out to be all the release oil that i had spayed on the bolts burning off (thank god). We got going down a nice section of road and after Simon tightened up a hose clamp on the inter cooler that i had forgotten to do up we started making some progress.

Really happy with the way it goes now, probably most noticeable improvement is the way it keeps going higher up the revs rather than tailing off around 5k.

Big thanks to Simon
