Engine rebuild tips!!!
Hi there, after 2 years of selling my classic im looking to get back into one.
Going to look at a V5 sti tommorow.
The car has had an engine rebuild done by JDM Motorsport so firstly i dont know if anyone can vouch for them.
The car itself has covered 600 miles so is still being run in so looking for tips too watch out for. Also what should he have done or is there any cost implementations i will incur as it hasnt covered many miles. Ive been told that obviously the oil should be changed about 1000 miles but that is as far as my knowledge gos.
Would appreciate your help guys, Many thanks.

I'm not sure I'd care WHO rebuilt it, if you can't get the FULL SPEC for the rebuild, walk away.
MINIMUM it should have had is new crankshaft bearings, new modine, uprated oil pump, eveything PROPERLY cleaned, then possibly: forged rods, new (forged) pistons, rebore/honed, new water pump, cambelt kits with new idlers and tensioners, gaskets to suit.
And, having paid for that lot, WHY is he selling it?

He said a piston went and had a full rebuild which is all the answers he gave me. Engine bay pics look really grubby. Manifold is grubby and the turbo seems to have rusted quite a lot. So im starting to have my doubts and pondering wether to wait a bit longer for something else!!!!

Also make sure it has new main bearings too, new gaskets, new head bolts don't worry too much about regroung crank and new crank as I have mates run a reground crank and its been fine as long as its don't right and cleaned out, fit spotless and oiled whilest fitting it will be fine.
