Im no expert but your talking 10mm difference so as long as your changing all your tyres or at least the 2 on the same axel I would have thought you`d be ok to be honest, Thats just my opinion fella.

Toyo T1Rs 205 40 17 will be fine Ive ran both sizes on 17s i dont notice any difference.
Im only saying T1Rs because i use them and rate them high, ie price, how they perform, and lifespan.
Clarky.

Just got the Subaru Workshop Manuals out Paul, to check what Save on Tyres were saying is corroect or not.
the Pre 97 WRX came as std with 15 x6jj Rim and 205-55-15 Tyres.
so you actually need 215-45-17 Tyres to keep in lign with the originals.
215-40-17
Tyre Size: 205-55-15 215-45-17 215-40-17 205-45-17 215-40-17
Rolling Radius: 190.54 cm 196.44 cm 189.69 cm 193.62 cm 187.18 cm
Total Diameter: 60.65 cm 62.53 cm 60.38 cm 61.63 cm 59.58 cm
Sidewall Height: 11.28 cm 9.68 cm 8.60 cm 9.23 cm 8.20 cm
If Running 215-45-17 your speed will be 3.1% More than indicated, so at 30mph you will be doing 30.9mph and at 60mph you will be doing 61.9mph
not much, but the extra spped u cary may be enough to see u a ticket if u are slightly above 30mph etc.
If running 215-40-17 your speed will be 0.4% less than indicated, so at 30mph you will be doing 29.9mph and at 60mph you will be doing 59.7mph
Not much and may give u a minuscule saftey Margin for speed cameras lol..
If Running 205-45-17 your speed will be 1.7% More than Indicated, so at 30mph you will be doing 30.5mph and at 60mph you will be doing 61mph.
Again not much
If Running 205-40-17 your speed will be 1.8% less than Indicated, so at 30mph you will be doing 29.5mph and at 60mph you will be doing 58.9mph
Not much but a nice saftey net for the cameras lol.
I already know the Scooby handles very well on 205-40-17 as i have run it and am about to get the same size tyres for the Wife's classic.
Got this below on the Suzuki Swift forums.
