Alot of people are putting 2.0l JDM engines and running gear in the classics think it works out cheaper.

And the money between 350 and 400 is a fair bit too,350 is moderately easy but 400 is another ball park again especially reliably.

welcome to the world of modding a classic subaru. in the grand scheme of things, £4k is a tear in a salty sea mate. some guys in here have spent the price of a small house on their classics, so don't feel too bad

Simple, sell your car and add the £3-4k and buy an already modified one.

If you want it done properly then there is no cheap way in a classic.

that's the cheapest way by far. You never ever get back the money you put in.

im not complaining, dont mind the costs involved. wheres the fun in buying and not building? the post was more to tell the people who post big bhp on a budget that it just isn't possible (not doing it properly anyway)

I'm running circa 370bhp in my Type R.
It was standard when I bought it and have since added:-
Engine work:
V8 Sti intercooler
550 injectors
uprated fuel pump
MD321H turbo
Apexi ECU
Exhaust system

Brembo's front and rear
- leading to bigger wheels

6 speed DCCD 'box

Just the engine work, you're looking at £3-4K depending on the bits you choose, new/second hand, who fits/maps it etc.

Then wheels, brakes, gearbox add another £3-4k.

Everyone ignores the £3-4k for the forged engine to take the power, even before the turbo's, ecu's, fmic, injectors etc. Your gearbox wil also be on borrowed time. Very expensive!
