2 Blokes, One Car!
Not quite like them game girls on the internet...
Thinking of sharing an Impreza project with a mate. What is a sensible way to go insurance wise?
We both have other daily drivers. The idea for this is take turns with the car. Visit each other, drop it off... just use at when we want. etc etc...
One lives in London and the other out West.

It's a first class idea. Just make sure you get the ground rules right. I'd say just keep a book, so all expenses go in and split the cost properly. Accept that the other guy can break it, and you have to pay half to fix it.
I've been doing that one for years with an old friend running a couple of classic cars and it works well for us. It means the cars get used, and faults don't seem so bad!

Speak to an insurance specialist (I'm sure there is at least one on here).
You can't use your NCB for 2 policies, so if you both have daily drivers then neither takes a hit to NCB if you crump your shared car - as neither has NCB linked to the policy for the shared car.

Different city fair enough, but you said other side of the country. So every time you want to use it (if your pal doesn't want to ofcourse) you have to drive god knows how many miles to get to it.
That was my point buddy. Car sharing is a good idea if you need to keep costs at a low, but Surely driving 100 miles + every time just seems alot to me.
It all depends how far away the car is from you..
I personally think a track project is a better idea. You can get the holder of the car to meet at a track and then take turns in running it. Also, insurance is not needed.

Every one has different circumstances. We get on the **** regularly and drive or train it depending on where we are working. He lives near an airport and I travel frequently. Another drinking excuse... plus airport parking. This actually saves us money on travel, parking and owning a toy.
That's how we are looking at it ... anyway, I was asking about insurance ....

Ok, if it works for you then fair play.
Insurance wise.....
If both of you have other cars then neither of you will be able to use your NCB on this car. NCB can only be used on 1 policy.
So, one of you (the older one or one with no points) Could insure it as the main policy holder and add the other guy on as a named driver.
Or, you could both take out separate policies for the same car.
Either way it's going to be expensive if you can't use your NCB.

It is illegal to dual insure the same car. I would recommend 1 as policy holder, keeper and main driver and depending on how often it will be shared either put the other as a named driver or add it as a temporary driver each time the other takes it, you must also inform the insurance company if the vehicle is going to be away from the policy holders address for more than 2 weeks.

Ive seen your new thread. Youll get some answers in there off people who actually sell insurance. Not that the guys who have posted on here are wrong... but i would rather hear what the pro's have to say about the subject. Its expensive if you get it wrong.
