OMG! My car's worthless
I have decided to replace my MY97 Sti V3 Wagon (most likely with a Hawkeye was the plan)
Looking around though I am realising my car is worth a little more than a years insurance for a young un
I've kept the car well, rebuild the engine when the bottom end gave out, APi recon gearbox, suspension... the list goes on a long way, but I reckon I'll get 2.5K for it on a sunny day
It's driving the best it ever has at the mo, and I am considering spending 1'000's on the new car, which I still think wont drive with as much fun as this classic
Suddenly my plan looks like a world of pain

Tried to sell my version V sti wagon and I never got an offer better than £2500, even though it had just had new calipers, discs all round and new alloys.
I'll be keeping mine rather than selling it for peanuts,

Im concerned that the Impreza is going to start losing its value quickly in light of these fuel price increases. I have a Hawkeye Sport, so cheaper insurance, tax and slightly lower fuel consumption but I still am keeping a watchful eye on whats going on.

bonesetter I know where your coming from mate.
Mines flown through it`s 3rd mot today since its been in this country and only 84483 K/m on the clock, Same year but WRX.
Not sure whether to just lock her away for a few years.
Or to try and get as much as possible from someone who wants a virtually std unabused Scooby.

lol, I just did. £4850. They usually under value a private sale by £1000. Looks like they did here and they did that with my previous car (£995 sold for via ebay for £1800)

Performance is still incredible. Even with 4 big blokes and my dog in it still pulls like a train
And yes, all the MOT's the car has sailed

unfortunately all used Subarus ( or other Japenese brand) are not worth much, my MY99 classic still drive like new( proper maintenance ofcourse),but worth less than my sofa, on the bright side though, when we come to buy used subaru, we pay less, most subaru are sell to enthusiast anyway, not like Audi or Bmw everyone want to have one and they are too expensive, I would say keep it that way, so we can enjoy cheap and nice motoring.

Cheap and nice motoring? Thats the problem with petrol prices rising. I got 16mpg the other day. I wouldnt mind if it was in a 350/350 STI but in a 160/140 Sport thats ust depressing. Im hoping it was just a blip as I did have particularly heavy traffic but Im not going to keep it if I get that again.

keep it bonesetter, you will really miss it if you sell.
With all these bleedin fuel price hikes, i still wont part with mine, i'd rather park it up & have it as a 'weekender'. sold my last scoob 5 years ago & missed it like mad until i could 'afford' to get/run another, so no way am i selling up !!!
ideally the mrs needs a newer motor & i will then run her little clio into the ground as a run around keeping the scoob for 'best'
& dont forget these cars are getting more & more rare in good working condition!

My cars only used for weekends now.
Check this for fistigious cleaning. Cant belive the prices there fetching though.
Might lockit away for a few years instead. (wish i had with all the Mk1`s and Mk2 escort`s i had when younger )

Sadly us classic owners are in a position where breaking them is more lucrative than selling as a whole.
I would be lucky to get 3K for my 2000 PPP, but it has a API rebuilt engine, Full PPP including the Alcon brakes, suspension, ECU, spoiler, exhaust etc.
I could probably sell the brakes, and engine + ECU for more than I would get for the car as a whole.
I would rather eat dog poo than break it though, so if changing i will wrap her up in cotton wool, and keep her in the garage for sunny days!

Ill buy it off you whole, if I can watch you eat the dog poo.
*actually scrap that, its not something that I would really want to do.

Anyone old enough to remember the 90's will remember the same happening with Cosworth values. I kept hold of mine until it was 4 years old as opposed to the normal 2 years when they were out of favour. At 4 years I got the same price when I traded it in. Ride the storm and don't panic....
