if buying a 2nd hand car at a dealer, whats the best deal to push for when you have no part exchange?
or is it a case you pay the screen price and get a set of poxy mats thrown in? lol

defo deals to be had. especially on performance cars cos noone wants em with the price of fuel.
My scooby screen price was £8,600 and i paid £5,400 with a new cam belt fitted free.
They lost money on it but they were desperate to get rid cos the only people looking at it were dreamers who couldn't afford the insurance.

Depends on dealer, and how many cars they have sold/need to sell that month/ quarter. I would say if one dealer wont give you a deal, goto another and they WILL, franchised dealers are all out to "out do" each other.

So as someone who is rubbish at haggling with cars (though oddly some of my day job is dealing with software vendors and their sales vultures - and I seem to manage to haggle those all day!)
How do you go about it? What's the opening gambit?

Get to the lowest price he will goto then tell him you want more off, or start on the free bee's.....tank of fuel, matts, all that ****. Then walk away.......have the phone number of another local dealership with the same/ similar car and call them, see if they will match or beat the deal....play one off on the other......

It all depends on car, marque and actual price whether you will be able to haggle. You can't just walk in to a dealer and expect 30% off. Just because something is a performance car does not mean you can expect the screen price to drop because the flaming petrol price.
I would say you may have more of a chance from an independant dealer than a chain. Normally chains will price to sell, or price to sell at what they know people will pay from a franchise dealer.
