Default Help me make a decision either way!

Hi... currently planning on going car hunting next week, need something sensible however a Mk3 STI PPP has gone up for sale just down the road from me, uh oh.

Firstly, the PPP package. Now is this just an additional option available to all STI's in the UK at the factory? Or were some cars actually released as a PPP model, if you get me? Also, after a bit of hunting around it seems that all UK STI's are referred to as the Type UK... is this correct?

Insurance is also a massive consideration obviously, I'm 26 with 6 years NCB. I just done a quote with Confused and it's coming out @ £1,200 with Adrimial. Now Adrian Flux can usually beat those quotes but am I gonna find this hard to get for under a grand?

Finally, am I gonna die? first webpage I read about the PPP's quote a 0-60 time of 4.2 seconds, that seems pretty damn insane. I've owned a Clio 182 and tuned turbo cars before but nothing even over 200bhp. Scared (excited ) at the prospect.

Thanks for any light you can shine on this...

4.2 0-60? nah, depends what you call the mk3, do you mean the hatch or the hawkeye version?
Hawkeye is 320ps 0-60 quoted in 4.8 secs, think its slightly less (4.6?) for the 330S/PPP'd hatches.

PPP is the Prodrive Performance Pack, not a factory fit thing but cars could have it added later or before delivery

Try A Plan or Keith Micheals for insurance.

As already stated unless your launching it, 4.2 is a bit of a myth (enter the "Oh yes it can" brigade) and not always achievable.

You'll also need to factor in mid 20's mpg on a decent run and mid to low teens if your playing.

Thanks for the information so far, few more things I've thought of...

This PPP then is it insurance friendly? As in can I say it's 'Subaru approved' or 'fitted at the factory' or something? Do I even need to tell them... I know you always should, and I always do, just power modifications that they can't see, I dunno

A general Impreza question here. As I said I've owned Turbo'd cars before and I get shouted at from my mum and in fact neighbours have come out when I'm sitting there warming the car up... is this still needed in a more modern turbo'd car? It's actually a big consideration for me as I'm made to park half way down my road, which is quite annoying.

The PPP is a subaru accessory, some insurance co's will charge you the earth for it though as they have no idea

Also what Model Year is this car?

As per any turbo car, get in, start car, seatbelt, check radio station, drive off, thats all you have to do

This is the car...

http://pistonheads.com/sales/2231876.htm

Anyone know it? Seems it's owned by an administrator on another Subaru forum. My brother's slightly concerned at the high mileage, would this put you off? I like the fact it's only had one owner from new though... my mate reckons belts need changing around 70k on Imprezas so that should have been done on it by now right? Is there anything else important I should ask about, thanks.

Nice car.......I've always had a soft spot for white cars with big sti stickers

It's a 7 year old car so 90k miles pretty reasonable, My guess is that it would have had the cambelt done 2008'ish.

Thanks for the link, it says on the Pistonheads advert that the stickers have been taken off! Must admit I wasn't a fan, and I'd want the wheels put back to their original colour... anyway getting ahead of myself somewhat.

Aren't Imprezas meant to have a 90k service? Might have to add that into the negotiations if it hasn't been done

Insurance wise fella id personally go with a specialist insurer that understands the car you are trying to insure , Im 28 with 8 yrs ncb and pay around £800 on a 54 plate blob type uk sti with ppp . I went with Keith Michaels through Moley WRX on here , he was very helpful however i did have to give proof of previous driving experience of a similar powered car which they can check through insurance databases i presume .

Good luck with the search

Would be perfect if I was starting a new policy. However I don't wish to loose my current build up from this years insurance by moving at this point, so I'd have to stick with Adrian Flux at least until my current years up.

Saying that Flux have always been the bollocks with modified cars in the past usually beat Confused by a fair few hundred so you never know... will phone them on Monday.

Have to admit, the headlights arent to my liking, but the rest of the car looks the nuts! After a Clio, this will be just totally different for you!

When I was looking at getting my Blobeye STi, people said "Make friends with the petrol station owner", and I thought nah it can't be that bad! Trust me tho, its worse...

Every thirty miles I do in my car costs me roughly £15. MAKE SURE you can either 1) comfortably afford a lot of money for petrol or 2) Drive just a few thousand miles a year (like me)!

Make no mistake about it, these cars are expensive in every aspect, but they are well worth it!

I can second the above - I collected a standard GB270 wagon last month thinking i'd be able to get sensible(ish) mpg. I've been cycling to work since.....

RE the insurace, some companies will mirror your ncb to a new policy so as you have xx ncb you will carry that onto your new one rather than having to build them up again
