With the BBO tomorrow my fooking engine light has come on and the car is struggling .. I've not driven it since the light came on and drove it home 10 miles last night without any issues .. ??

the light coming on is in away, better.
as you can easy find out why.

get a diagnostic done, and change the relating parts

 

Have you not connected the 2 black connectors together that are under your dash (next to the green ones?) to show you any error codes (ensuring the engine is off as well as the ignition whilst connecting/disconnecting them)?

under the dash, there are some conections. once conected, they make the engine light flash, they corispond to the fault.

theres other links on here, exsplaining better and codes ect

Turn the ignition off and under the steering column you will find two black connectors ... connect them together and then turn the ignition on and watch the check engine light. It will pulse out the error code (or codes in rotation).

Codes are as follows:

11 Crankshaft position sensor

12 Starter switch

13 Camshaft position sensor

21 Engine coolant temperature sensor

22 Knock sensor

23 Mass air flow sensor

24 Idle air control solenoid

31 Throttle position sensor

32 Oxygen sensor

33 Vehicle speed sensor 2

35 Purge control solenoid valve

42 Idle switch

44 Wastegate control solenoid valve

45 Pressure sensor / Pressure exchange solenoid valve

51 Neutral position switch

i.e 2 slow and 3 fast = 23 Mass Airflow sensor.

About £120 form the stealer and an easy install

I'd try this first; check the connections on the maf and clean if necessary. Reset engine light (disconnect batt for 30mins) take it for a drive and see if the engine light comes back on. If it does and throws the same code then new maf I'm afraid.

I would take it to someone who knows what they are doing in all honesty ..... saying that, brake cleaner squirted on the inside of the MAF has, as a last resort, brought many a MAF back into service.

 

 

MAF replaced and all appears to be well again .. £110

 

Common fault on these cars and can lead to engine failure in extreme cases so best to replace every few years just to be sure.
