Default Bell & Colvill Anyone?

Hi All

Hope it's OK to post this in this section, can't see where else to place it ;-)

With the closure of Cheam Motors (ugghh) just down the road from me, I'm just wondering if anyone has any experience with Bell & Colvill, in West Horsley? I could go to my local reliable, any model garage, but just wanted a specialist to have a look as I just bought her. They look pricey, but if they're good I don't mind.

Cheers - Justin (Banstead)

Hi All

I've know the Subaru place was there in Ewell for years, but never needed them, but the day after I bought the car, I found out from reviews that they were pretty good, but closed - HI-larious

I'm hearing great things about 'Surrey Subaru' and the other couple of respected ones near me, it's just that Bell & Colvill have loan cars & a pick up system, the other guys look like they may not. Anyways, I can wait a bit as she had a major service in January, with some of the nasty stuff done - I'd still like her to have a date with a pro though ;-)

Cheers - JJ

Dont go there!!!!

They had my STi hatch in to look at loss of power and using 1 litre of oil per 200-300miles.

I was spoken to like an idiot told there was nothing wrong with the car and they all drink oil!

200miles later when on Hoilday in Newquay no 4 piston decided to let go, got the car recovered to Proven Subaru in Haslemere.

These guys really know there stuff, couldnt have asked for a better service

TAKE IT THERE !

Hey Dr Jim

Terrible story, sorry to hear that; and patronising as well, so you got the full treatment ;-)

Nuff said, I've had my warning!

I think I might use my local, totally reliable, guys as these specialists are just a bit far for me, especially as I think everything is OK. If they spot anything they don't like, and they say it's a specialists job, I'll go to one of the guys we're mentioning in Surrey.

Cheers - JJ

I had a few dealings with them when I had my Lotus , I was happy enough with them and would use them again.

Can't say I could recommend.

They've done 3 bits of work for me

2 have had to be rectified afterwards due to errors - and I was charged for their error.

Ok if you want a bog standard service - but would not let them do anything else.

Very disappointed given the amount of money they charge.

My experience with Bell & Colvill was years ago when I had my STi blob. They did a full service for me, but of course very expensive.

Very detailed explanation though with what they had done etc.

The other thing was when I ordered the silver Prodrive gearknob, but a black one turned up, so had to wait longer for the right one.

That's about it with my experience of them.

That's where I go for everything. Graham, Jack and Gary are fantastic guys.

I can't praise Proven enough for everything they have done for me over the years. From my STi blob, a 6 year gap, and now my STi Spec D Hawk.

From experience, you are always better off using a well recommended specialist rather than an over priced, far less knowledgable main dealer...IMO..of course

A couple years ago someone reversed into my bumper, I rung Bell & Colvill and asked about bringing it on my lunchtime for a repair quote.

Bit of a rush to get there during lunch but made it, spoke to the manager and was told the repair person only came in X days a week and there weren't there today.

I pointed out I had rang ahead, only to be told that wasn't possible and in effect I was lying - because I really like wasting my lunchtimes!

Obviously never been back, learnt my lesson on them without spending a penny.

Would not recommend at all

You get spoken to as if you are an idiot.

The servicing/ repair work is poor. They replaced the front brakes, which then started binding on within a month. Likewise they carried out some other repair work with turned out to be very shoddy.

I would recommend Proven who undid all the bad work that B&C did.
