I like the way the torque peaks so early and gently tails off. The power just climbs and keeps on going

Andy's about covered it there. The pistons are APi custom made in California and are remarkably quiet. A certain well respected tuner from Leicester commented about how quiet they were and was impressed.

They are oil tight immensely strong and above all quiet.

It was very carefully put together by Mick White here using ACL race bearings, cossie baffle for the sump [ they are brilliant - if you haven't got one - where have you been the last 2 years ??]

The heads are mildly tidied up STi version 3 with Vers 3 cams on standard timing.

Carbonetic twin plate clutch which also faultless and very easy to drive.

AND this car is mapped with Simtek.... By Pat Herborn .

It is specced to run at 1.8 bar, so that's where we'll be going next Wednesday when we have some consistent reading of AFR. Both the senders on the rollers decided to play up and Pat had managed to fry his own one in an ' incident ' at Xtreme Scoobies on Tuesday.

We expected a figure starting with a 5 on that set up I think we may gain ten more but we are looking for more torque really.

The key is the E85. On another car with a similar engine that ran 511hp on the rollers at PowerStation on pump fuel [ twisted GT35R ] we got an extra 6 degrees of timing in on 20% E85 and it now shows 550 hp

Good stuff E85, but you already knew that.

Yeah, I got pulled over by the cops and l told them that some ******** in a green Subaru driving like a nutcase had caused the truck to swerve and that it was his fault that the load parted company with the truck

Only got part of the reg: something, something something 1250.

We were going to run this car again today with a bit extra boost in, but Pat has fallen over and done an ankle [ probably fell off his wallet ] and spent some time in A & E, so cancelled. Run again next week then.

great work API/andy97 looking like a great set up.

Would love to have API closer to my doorstep for when i get round to having my engine rebuilt hopefully starting next year. As I have had parts from David for my last subaru & he even made sure the new standard conrods he supplied even balanced as close as possible to my old ones so there was no issues. That's what I call looking after your customers

Being purely a track car these days it was built with that in mind. So 500 miles on that particular engine is plenty.

We have built it perform and used tolerances that allow us to run hard from pretty much day one.

It was never designed to do 60.000 miles.

We tell customers that if we build to last 40,000 miles it'll be in the mid to higher 400's for horsepower.

If you want more than 500 hp then expect it to come to bits once a year to keep it on song. On a conventional turbo set up - 500 hp plus is usually running on something other than pump fuel.

Realistically anything substantially above 500 hp that runs on pump fuel will be on a twisted turbo set up.

The likelihood of a 2.5 on a Semi closed block, running 500 hp at high boost, staying together a whole year without blowing a head gasket or burning oil is pretty low.

It can be done, it has been done, BUT, l have spoken to a number of customers in the last year, with almost any engine size, running up in those figures and they use more oil than petrol.

They need building strong and carefully - professionally, to have much of a chance.

Sensible & cautious advice imo..... of course unless you're a big power bragger, yet only run down the shops once a month or of course, only run low boost everywhere (but still tell everyone your running 100bhp more).
