Default Cleaning the engine bay?

How do you start?

I've seen a few cars on here that look mint under there, plus Natahn's in real life, where you could eat off his engine.

But under mine's bonnet, it's a bit scruffy. Even the paintwork in the engine bay is matt and faded. I've tried polish, but it doesn't do anything.

So far, all I've mamaged to do is clean all the yellow tops, water, oil etc, the fusebox lid, the radiator clamp, the fan shroud/mounting, and replace a few old rusty bolts with stainless.

Remove what you can, then wrap any vitals with cling film. Use a good degreaser, go over with a stiff brush, then rinse, wash with shampoo, rinse, remove cling film and dress all the plastics. I did my old evo a few years back.

"Dress all the plastics"? Like with Autoglym "Bumper care"?

Edited to say: right, as soon as this bad spell of weather passes , I'll give it a go.

Might even get to the stage where I start fitting coloured hoses

Obviously be a specialist job. Had a quote of £50 from a local detailer. Also he is fully insured should something happen. Better than trying it yourself and ruining your car.

i done mine for the first time a few months ago,

its so easy and the results are amazing,i used tin foil to cover maf, battery, alternator, fuse box and boost solenoid, and cut some cardboard to fit in the tmic so no fins got bent,

spray with water from power wash, ,degreaser, scrub, rinse ,mop up excess water with towel, remove foil, start car and let it idle for a few mins,

then reapply foil and then spray the whole engine bay with areospace 303,then remove all foil, cardboard, start car with bonnet up and idle for a few mins,

put rubbish in bin, quick run round the block to heat the engine which helps seal all parts which have been sprayed,

go home open bonnet smile, have a beer,
