I have a 1995 wrx sti, just wondering how reliable they are for long distance driving as ive gotta drive from london to devon in a couple of weeks which is about a 3 - 4 hour drive.

ive done some 4 , 5 hour journys in my scoobs no probs apart from the drone of the exhaust lol. As long as its got oil, water and is running ok i dont see a problem, people drive them to the nurburgring then thrash them and drive them home with no probs

I drove all the way to holland in mine no problems. As above if its topped up and got all the right fluids in, then no issues.

Whats the point in owning a scoob if your worryed to drive it for a few hours.......if you maintaine it proper then you should have nothing to worry about.....at the end of the day (as with any other engine) if its gona thro a rod or big end baring there is nothing you can do, as it can happen at any time any place.... just enjoy the car ,keep it well maintained then atlest you have done your bit towards keeping it a1...

I've done long trips in mine and the car is fine along you do the above.Make sure you have a break because Impreza's aren't the most comfortable when on long trip's.

I often make 7 hour journeys in my Type-R, in fact I've been all over the country in it. Never a problem, except my wife hates the noise! The only thing I would suggest...... is if you have done several hundred hard miles getting to your destination, check the oil level before returning. I find the seats supportive and very comfortable on long journey's.

agreed! , reliable, robust, cars built for sporty driving, just keep an eye, check everything before you go and enjoy... If its gonna go pop it will go and probably not because of a long drive ...
I ve done 250miles + track +250miles return no problems
the exhuast drone can get annoying and petrol economy mode is very boring & frustrating.. My car is quiter a 80 than 70 or 55 is..... i tend to go for good mpg then every now and then blast it for a bit just to stay awake !!!

The Impreza is fine on long journeys. I can conformably do 300 miles without stopping although I only have the Prodrive back box fitted so my car isn't that loud so you don't really notice the exhaust drone etc.

The general consensus is that all Jap import models have to be run on super unleaded (basically 97RON or above). There are a few that say that BP ultimate is not that good for the Impreza but I can't comment as I’ve never used it but I’ve tried Shell V-Power, Esso Super and Total Excellium with no issues.

Standard UK cars can be run on standard 95 RON unleaded but most would advise super unleaded.

Any modded car should only be run on Super unleaded.

Hope that helps

My reply was with regards to the turbo models. the N/A models would be fine on any fuel but the BMW 2.0 N/A would be the better choice IMO

personally i seem to get better mpg at 80 than 55mph, ? http://images.ibsrv.net/ibsrv/res/sr...es/cool.gifits bout 34 if I keep it just off turbo, there is some supershell petrol towards dorset/devon but i recommend a sat nav that tells you where ... or refill towards end of A33 before you get into area to avoid panic.... lolhttp://images.ibsrv.net/ibsrv/res/src:bbs.scoobynet.com/get/images/smilies/thumb.gif

check the following for any car when doing long driving or lots of miles.

check oil
check water level
check washer fluid level
check tyre pressure

these are 4 key things, other stuff would be bulbs, indicators all working ok, and also the condition of window wipers, very anoying finding out the hard way that they squeek and dont clear the screen on a motorway when its hammering it down.

check again during your long journey, as you may do a week or even a months worth of driving in a day.

And a good feel around the tyres (including inside wall) for any stuff jabbed in , I had a near death blow out years ago and tyre checking become an OCD
