Subaru changed to the small versions in 2004? Many of the after-market filters are of the larger type eg Purolator, UFI etc.

How on Earth could they use an even smaller one than the current miniscule item? Unless, of course, it will solve the problem of bearing failure
So much for the "Always use a genuine Subaru filter"

They are made by honeywell in the usa, where as the black filters were made in japan as usual due to the price of the yen its cheaper to buy the crappy blue filters from the usa. Personally i hate the flaming things, prefilling them takes and eternity lol the black ones used to soak it up quite quick.

If it takes longer to pre-fill a smaller filter it seems to indicate a higher flow resistance through the filter medium? Or am I just scaremongering
Think I'll stick to UFI filters from Opie!

Seeing as the oe filters from the US sound as they're a bit suspect, how do people rate the pink STi ones?

do you really think subaru uk would sell filters that would cause damage to the engine? imagine the claims going in for new engines due to filters that restrict the flow of oil.
come on get over yourselves the filters are fine.

You're right. They don't need filters to damage engines, they're quite capable of that by using suspect internals and maps?
