Default What makes the Spec C so much lighter?

Hey all,

I've always wondered, what exactly is it that makes the Spec C lighter than the equiv STi? For example the 03 Blobeye STi vs Spec C.

It's nearly 100kg difference isn't it?

Thanks

So if I strip some carpet, get a carbon fibre boot lid and roof, I'll be on my way to Spec C weight I can't believe so much is saved by doing so little!

Lughter glass lightweight AC delete sound deadning ( this stuff weighs 25kg). Also extra welds are done to the body making it much more rigid.

No sound proofing and a redesigned front subframe which saves a hell of a lot of weight

light weight battery. It all adds up.

Less paint under coats is a funny one. But i suppose 5 litres of paint equals at least 5kgs. A lot more if it was lead based!! - lol

The beauty is tht you get to hear everything and it's still no where near as loud in the cabin as my classic was with a full decat and no centre resonator.

TX,
It's because I had the "original" Spec C and not some watered down wannabee!

So how does it compare to a WRX of the same year then? They are meant to be lighter than the STI aren't they?

Are you asking how they compare in terms of weight? They vary throughout the years. As a reference.

2007 JDM WRX to JDM Spec C (17" model) is 1360kg vs 1390kg.

But seeing how rare JDM WRXs are, maybe a more relavant comparison will be with a Euro/UK WRX which is listed at 1415kg. So that is about 25kg more than a JDM Spec C.
