People which vehicle is cheaper to tune to 400bhp and which is cheaper to service and cheaper parts? Just curious.

evo may be a bit easier to tune but you have to service them near enough every week so servicing is going to add up a damn sight quicker then the slight overlay of money for the scoob.

Presumably the newer Evos are much cheaper to service over time due to the 10k service intervals?
Or are the bits more expensive and do they need replacing more often?

Cost of servicing, the subaru will be cheaper.
Cost of getting 400bhp reliably, the evo will be considerably cheaper.
Parts costs, the subaru will be cheaper, but the evo will have a few better parts as standard (brakes etc)
If your buying an Evo, look at the 7 or 8, they can be picked up quite cheaply, clutches can be a problem as can over heating brakes, but v the STI 5/6 they are far more tunable and cheaper to do so.
Oh and the Evo 4, 5 & 6 all had issues with the AYC, if they were not recalled then I would avoid.

Personally I'd have a classic sti at that level. A friend of mine had a 350bhp evo6 and although it was a nice car I found it very boring and not very fast over 100mph. My sister has a classic wrx pushing out 345bhp with an sti 3 gearbox and it's a lot more fun than the evo in every way and it pulls like a train until the red line in 5th.
I'd imagine 400bhp in a late classic sti would be awesome fun

i had a red tommi mak before my sti ra v4
good things about the tommi mak are strong engine and box, the ayc, diff problem isnt as common as you may think by looking on the internet and usually can be cured cheaply anyway. can run upto 400hp on standard internals though tommi maks (evo 6.5) and evo 7s meant to have weak rods so alot of ppl only go to 370ish mine was 350.
bad things everyones else thinks it awesome but yes can get a bit boring to drive, handle like glue but you never know quite which way to steer when the backend kicks out because of the ayc
good points of the sti ra(get an ra you know you want to)feels as quick as the evo even when standard, handling as good and you can opp lock with confidence, feels more raw than evo, lighter than evo, the rumble
bad points, they are cheaper for a reason, engine, gearbox no where near as strong as the evos, boxer engines can be a pain in the **** if you need to work on them, not as good looking???? not sure on this but they dont stand out as much.
btw i love my sti but part of the reason is i sold my evo for 9k and bought the sti for 3300 and feel like ive got the same performance
