Hi guys,

Newbie needs some advice, so ive started a new thread for him.....

It doesnt seem to be low on power, and no white smoke.
Wanted a scoob for years, feel a little dis-heartened by it all.

Hiya fella, I’ve seen you’re original post regarding the problem. You need some serious help or advice, as you seem like you’re not mechanically capable of doing this work yourself. So you have several options available to you, but first can we clear a few things up.

You say you have only owned the car Two weeks in the other thread, where did you buy/px the car from, is he a 'Garage'

Was there any history with the car and if so is there any receipts or documentation of any recent mechanical work such as a new clutch as it may be under warrantee?

The original thread was regarding an overheating Sti..... https://www.scoobynet.com/scoobynet-general-1/827841-overheating-sti.html so I assume the car was driving normal to a degree although it was overheating?

I would recommend that you ring Brian at Scoobyteknix and explain to him what symptoms/issues you are experiencing (He is likely to be at TOTB Sunday which is local to you), he would suggest you bring the car to him or he can collect and go from there. They are good guys and they offer very good rates. Based in Blackpool.

I'll ask spiltpin to join your thread, as he is very knowledgeable, but be prepared for more questions.

Hi Rob,
Sadly it was a private deal with a guy in Lincoln.

The Car was fine for a couple of days, with no signs of overheating.
Sat in town traffic one hot day, heat raised quickly to just under the red! pulled over, switched off and squeezed rad pipes.
Appeared fine for a few days then when left to idle for about 10 mins the temp had moved well above normal again.
Changed all the coolant and thermostat...again ok for a few days then heated up while under normal conditions??
I have a water pump on order from flea bay to see if this solves it.
With regards the clutch, My mate thinks the clutch has failed and shattered into pieces causing a jam?
The clutch arrived today, so hopefully be under it at the weekend to take a look with an old mechanic friend, whole be pretty gentle with me on the cost.
After i get it running again i think it will be a trip to a specialist, so they can cast their eye over it and tell me exactly what i have taken on .
Cheers,
Roy

Hi, Im shocked at how helpful everybody is in this forum! Thanks all .
Steven It would be great to have someone that knows the impreza well could cast an eye over it, but i live in York and dont want to put you out mate. Im starting the clutch replacement tomorrow with my pal from Audi so, as soon as its done i could always come to you. I had to drive the car over 80 miles when i collected it, and the temp was fine all the way. Mickywrx, the Fans kick in when, i pressume the temp reaches thermostat level but sometimes the upper pipe swells with hot water and the lower ones cold. Other times the lower pipes hot too (when i dont get the problem) could this be the water pump? I have a replacement one to try when i sort the clutch.
Cheers.

Take him up on the generous offer, and try and avoid driving it as much as possible to prevent further damage. Fans should kick in around 96-97oC, and the interior fans are not related as this is the heater matrix although i would get this looked at before the colder weather approaches. Without wanting to ask you repeat questions, you have drained the coolant and re-filled wthout any air locks? Ive got a High flow thermostat if you need one?

Good luck, and im surely you will be on the road again soon. I have car transporter you could borrow if you get desperate, but im a good hour and half away from you.

You aren't by chance the person who rang me the other day after speaking with Mark Bean are you?

Cheers for all the offers of help guys, but i have come to the conclusion that overall, this car is not worth a carrot.
The idiot who worked on it last left nuts and bolts off everywhere! the clutch problem has originated from the clutch release pivot not being secured by the allen bolt in the side of the gearbox, which exited the side of the box and jammed under the starter!!! its had a bolt off the side of the gear box stabilizer bar missing too?? i would love to feed this car, in little pieces to the guy i got it off....or park it on top of his mint skyline but that wont really solve my problem of lacking funds and lack of car.
I think i will have to try and sell it as spares or repairs, with a borg and becker clutch and water pump. its mot'd until 07/01/2011 and had a gearbox in it in august 09. tax ran out start of august.
Its push bikes for me for a while...I feel sick

Hi, i dont want to come across as ungratefull, but this car really isnt a good reason to drag anyone over to look at it.
I jumped into something without looking into it and im going to jump out of it just as quick.
I will be looking to get a decent example from within this forum when i get enough cash together, but this one will be listed with its remaining problems once its driving.

Speedo doesnt work
body work isnt great
it looks like its been put together by a 10 year old
heaters dont work
overheats from time to time
front discs are warped

In fact i found it for sale on piston heads after i got it.
It was listed in Bradford the month before i got it for £895 with broken maf sensor and vandalized rear boot and glass..I got it from lincoln for just under £2k's worth of 98 civic vti... with a silver bootlid (not wired in) and new maf sensor.its been past from pillow to post. I wish i had seen it on piston heads......
In fact i would be embarrased to have someone look at it, who is used to looking at good ones.
Its easier for me to get it to wheldrake lane than it is to pocklington, as i dont have the facillities or equipment to work on a car at my home (as i found out)
Its just not worth the money it will cost me to sort it, if you can do it yourself its probably ok.
I have been quoted £200 by AG Motors to fit the clutch i have, then its going.
So if someone wants a cheap project it will be for sale, open to offers.

No offence Steven, i just dont think its worth coming out your way to look at it.
Oh and no we haven't spoken on the phone...there must be 2 people in York who recently got there pants pulled over there heads lol.

No worries, Gary is a sound guy at AG Motors.

Why bother spending any more money on it if you are going to ditch it.

I found a previous owners thread whos been trying to solve the same problem...but he has pics too, Please note this is NOT the guy i bought it off.
The car is currently getting a new gearbox and clutch fitted at ag in york...so im going to battle through it no matter what.
