Sludged up Radiator can cause this ..... feel the Radiator for temperature across its width.

Take Rad off and flush out .... easiest thing to do .....

Failing rad (check the bottom as they collapse there first), blockage, hg failure (you dont always get the sludge to start with, just depends where its failed), but eliminate the usual suspects first as the HG will cost you the most to fix (supposedly the alloy rads on ebay are pretty good and not expensive )

If the Thermostat isnt operating correctly the fan will kick in when the temp gets to 96-97c, but the water will not be getting cooled in the rad.... correct me if im wrong here?

Ive got a brand new High Flow Thermostat Valve if you feel that this might be the cause.

they don't mix oil and water, the fan tends to kick in and stay in and you get bubbles in the expansion tank which eventually blows it's water out over the battery

check the bottom hose on your rad if its cold then it mite be your thermo if you change it and its still cold when your temp reads norm its your head gasket wich could be caused possebley by your water pump iv bin sortin scoobys out for years and its commen when warter and temp starts playin up its 1 ov 3 thermo head gasket or water pump and it starts with head gasket going and becuse ov pressure it corses water pump bearing to go from the pressure from you pistons or vicer verser and the 3rd 1 is the thermostat wich sticks and corses air locks from back pressure wich macks the water blow back throu your water header tank

i got the same problem with my v3 wagon...flushed system..still overheated, changed thermo...still over heated...just ordered a water pump..this is my last ditch attempt before it gets returned to the guy i swapped my very reliable honda civic vti for.
It doesnt seem to be low on power, and no white smoke.
Wanted a scoob for years, feel a little dis-heartened by it all.

I could name a few, but they are all North East (2 - 2.5 hours drive for you), not good in a overheating scoob.

Started the below, good luck.

Cheers scooby2010, and thanks for helping out with the thread Rob, but i think im cream crackered now.
The clutch fell to the floor tonite in the work car park and it sounded like the engine seized up, it stopped dead! i looked under the bonnet and just under the cylinder thing, with the rod and spring (you can tell i know my stuff) under the intercooler there is a hole in what i think is the gearbox...i have been had! owned it 2 weeks (nearly)
Ready to slash up now
