Thanks babber but my price range is including a £5k p/ex on my current car so private buys are out as I cant be arsed to sell mine privately.
Cheers anyway,
Simon.

P1Fanatic - if you can't be bothered to sell yours privately, and I don't blame you, why not punt it through the auctions yourself? That's all the garage would do anyway. Then you can go ahead and buy one privately for a lower price. Best of both worlds

To all of you whove bought a P1 recently, did you manage to haggle the advertised price down. Im hoping I can get £1k off to put a £24/£25k P1 in my price range. I think it best to monitor a P1 for sale and wait for a month or so then make an offer when I know they havent been able to sell it.
Just want to know if this is a realistic assumption on my part as its not something I can ask a dealer over the phone and a lot of the P1's Im interested in are a fair drive away.
Simon.

Sounds realistic to me. I know Lanasters in Pangbourne have a couple of nice ones at the moment, one with the big brake conversion and prodrive exhaust. It is a buyer's market right now so they say, it might be worth making an offer

Thats half the problem - lots of dealers have P1's for sale but dont advertise them on the Subaru website so you have to rely on someone else letting you know.

Simon,
For a straight cash deal I'm sure you'd get £1k+ off the forecourt price. However, I can't see 'em giving you the discount and offering a decent part ex for your current car - at the end of the day the dealer will probably just trade your old car on.
Cheers,
Ian.

I know what u mean but when I was at an Audi garage the guy said my car is worth £5k but thats not what we will give your for it i.e. they have a bit more leeway to offer a lower total price by giving me a better deal on my p/ex.

Lets look at this another way - your car is sells for £5.5k privately, you can buy an nice P1 for say £22k privately (some have been sold for under £20k, so sounds like a reasonable private price). Or the dealer gives you £5k PX for your car and sells you a similar P1 for £24k. So the private sale route costs £16.5k to change and the dealer route costs £19k
I know I'd be arsed for £2.5k, particularly as all P1's (provided correctly serviced and unmodified) are still covered by subaru warranty, so no extra assurance from a dealer purchase
