Default water leak :(

i've got a water leak on my 555 and i can't find where it's coming from? if i drive fast it pressurises and comes out the coolant down the sidelight and if i take it easy it don't leak. have left it on my drive for 2 weeks now and its lost over a litre of water. i don't know what to start changing as i'm still hoping its not the headgasket

you might not see any water comin out until you've started it or after you've driven it a few miles

do you think i should jack the front up and leave it running for 10 mins and have a good look underneath?

it would be good to see if anyone else has had similar problems

Take off the top and bottom rad hoses and give them a check as they are a common problem.
Also check to see if there is any white sludge under the oil cap that would indicate that the head gasket has gone

checked the oil cap and theres nothing to suggest to me that the headgasket has gone so fingers crossed with that one still...

i can't see anything though... think i'm gonna need a head pressure test. took it for a quick blast down the road and even though the radiator wasnt topped up it still pressurized quite a bit and the car struggles for power after 4.5k revs

you dont get mayonnaise on the oil filler, its a flat 4.
Its the rad hose, which side is it leaking from?
its a pressurised coolant system so when hot the pipes are expanding and squirting coolant out.

i don't know where the water is leaking from... only that when it pressurizes it comes out the blow off down by the o/s sidelight.. would a dodgy rad hose cause performance problems though?

and sonic... what do you mean about a wet passenger carpet?

Sonic is saying that you dont get mayonnaise on the filler cap with a flat 4 that has done its head gasket.
You get water in the passenger footwell, check the carpet, is it wet?

the black house thats attached to the coolant by the battery mate. i only call it a blow off as its similar to a blow off pipe we have to fit on refrigeration systems at work

battery is nearside, you still drive on the left in Coventry?
That pipe is coolant overflow, basically the system is over pressurising and getting by the rad cap which in turn over flows to the filler pipe at the nearside of the rad and then ditches via a pipe into the chassis leg..

Your car is ****ed, sell it and buy a different one

Sounds like head gasket to me. Dill had it on his type R and it was pushing water out of that overflow on track. Further investigation proved it was head gasket and it had to be changed.

Steve, I looked at your car weeks ago, and told you I believed the HG had gone.

It pumps water out of the overflow tank, has bubbles in the overflow tank (lots of) and the overflow tank even smells like combustion gas.

I do realise you dont want to here this mate, but there is no way around the fact.

Take it to Mark and have a second opinion from a Subaru tuner at least you will know what direction to go in regards a cure.
