Number Plates
#1
I recently bought all the gear to make my own plates (I needed a few myself so thought what the hell) and had to buy a minimum amount of bits. If anyone would like a standard replacement plate, a special track plate, a plate with adjusted spacing, a sign for your bedroom (!) or whatever then please e-mail me direct. Cheap but high quality. Apparently next year the laws change to a new format and if your existing plate needs replacing then you will only be able to buy the new format from an licensed retailer. So if I can help.........

standard plate is £6.50 ea and with a border is £7,50 ea. I'll let you know about postage but I guess around £1-2. Halfords charge £10 with the border so should still be a few quid cheaper even with postage and I will sort out any spacing you like (not for road use, of course!)

I have a number plate with 5 characters. Is it possible to have the first character the legal spacing from the left side, legally space the other characters, leave the legal end space, then cut off the rest of the unused plate?
So legal spaces, legal letters, just a dodgy sized plate!
Cheers

Should be simple enough to cut one end off the perspex before the numbers and backing are bonded on - the backing is trimmed last anyway. Don't think it's illegal to have a shorter plate as long as the spacing and font are OK.

I presume you can offer these plates using any of the currently legal 4 fonts and some of the more popular illegal ones can you?
I am specifically interested in the legal high line font.

Only the legal fonts and hopefully the 2.5" format as well. I have only really stocked up on standard bits but have had lots of enquiries for something different so I'll get different fonts and sizes as well........

Martin, please e-mail me your address again, I accidentally deleted your note (and e-mail). If I can send it tomorrow a.m. you should get your track plates for Donno!

If you want the width cut down that is no problem. If you have 5/6 characters or less then the plate can be cut down quite a bite and still be legal. Don't forget about the new laws in the new year - extremely heavy fines for illegal plates. If you want any, e-mail me direct.

I would have posted a piccie, but the obvious paranoia takes over, and concerned about publishing the plate!!!
Yes it is a cool plate!!!

Iain,
I'm after a new front number plate. I've had a look on the DVLA website which explains the new font and sizing, but it doesn't say anything about sticker number plates.
If you fit a correctly sized sticker number plate on your bumper, it is not exactly readable, but is it illegal, and if so, on what basis (I assume there needs to be a clearly defined rule, not just 'it's difficult to read').
And are sticker number plates legal if placed at the bottom of the bonnet? - I ask as they will appear smaller from the front than a standard plate, because they are at an angle.
Thanks

Thanks for the coments guys. I really started doing my own because it's difficult to get cutdown plates, something slightly different or decent quality. Cheers.
I think the law is that you must be able to clearly read the plate at a 5 deg angle from the horizontal plane. I have seen many cars (even new Jag XK8's) with sticker plates on the bonnet. On the scoob, they are clearly visible here. I think mounting them to the bumper might be 'dodgey' - even so, if you do get stopped you can relocate it to the bonnet!

I can now do a few more plate options (plate sizes, text, mounting holes, etc....) so if you are interested I can e-mail you an order form / price list.
Cheers for now

I posted a site a few weeks ago regarding number plates. I had the standard size letters and plate but moved the spacing. ie 1234 567 to 12 34567 this cost me £30 and the threat of being issued a Q plate if caught again. So sorry if I affect any orders being placed with Iain P but I feel if you did not see the posting you should be warned.
