How can I make sure its an sti not just a wrx blobeye?
Its a jap import 01 sti but how can I make sure its a true sti and not just dressed as one
I have hpi'd it and it just came up as a impreza wrx.
It all looks above board and has all the spec of the sti and is also very well looked after but I just like to make sure if I can before parting with my hard earned cash.
I have the vin number so is there a way of making sure??

To see what it is you need the look up the applied model code .

Easiest thing would be to call Subaru with the VIN and get them to confirm the model.
Though might be difficult since its an import.
However, being a JDM, I doubt anyone would go to the trouble of importing a WRX from Japan so my guess is that it's an STI and only reason its coming up as a WRX on HPI is most likely due to it being an import.
You can go on visuals, ie Brembos, STI steering wheel and clusters, STI top mount, etc but as you say alot of people dress their wrx up with sti parts.

Applied model number. This is absolute, as opposed to weak anecdotal evidence such as manifold colour.
The chassis number prefix will also identify an STI on New AGe cars: WRX = GDA and WRX STI = GDB.

Thanks guys it is GDB on the vin plate so that will do for me. Like I said everything else tied up like brakes, interior, intercooler, inlet etc etc but it only came up as Impreza wrx.
I went on ebay last night and put all the jap sti registrations in to a hpi check and they all came up Impreza saloon but the UK ones came up with the full title like Subaru Impreza sti prodrive etc.
It just seemed to cheap for an sti but to much for a wrx.
Thanks all
