Are you sure its a uk car and not a jdm import as the ammout of people who sell em dont know what they have!
Also what ecu does the reciept say?

Well to be fair the guy i bought it off thought it was a import, but its green which i thought was uk only, plus the chassis numbers look uk, and in the history there are british subaru books and assitance cards dated 1998, he said it was imported in 2002, theres no import papers tho.

Easiest way to tell is rear wiper and speedo in mph/kmh (jap imports just have one circle of numbers)

the car has probably had a import ecu fitted, which is fine so long as you run it with 97ron or more.
pull the passenger carpet back, remove the metal plate and the ecu is under there. read the two big letters off the ecu case and post em up.

I would get that ecu out of there and replace with a UK my97/98 ecu, if the 95/96 wrx is a saloon then its a totally different map as the turbo's are different, if its off a wagon then there is no reason to swap as they have about 10bhp difference, and they as already said, require 97+ ron fuel.

v9 is import ecu (hence the limiter) from a pre96 wrx wagon with a td04 turbo.
what year is your car, or what plate is it on?

1995 m, could this be the reason for the misfire at 1500 rpm, it ticks over fine, but when i pull away it stutters? thanks

only imports have a rear wiper.

that ecu you have is the wrong one for the car. its for a import wagon which uses a td04

your uk car will have a td05 (EVEN IF ITS A WAGON).

you need to fit one of these ecus

U8, 2C, W6, W9 - 1993/1994 WRX - 11.47psi (240ps)

Z4 - 1995/1996 WRX - 12.78psi (260ps)

all of these will work fine in your car with super unleaded.

V7, 7D, 6D - 1993 to 1996 UK/Euro 11.47psi
one of these ecus will work with 95 ron but they only deliver 208bhp

this will then probably fix your running issues.

Seeing that a Z4 formed the base of Prodrives PPP ECU, then I have to question the 'get it off now' advice. Itll run perfectly well on SUL. Im far too tired to get my head around the supposed speed limit issue though.

ECU swap is a straight unplug, bolt-off, bolt-on, re-plug, but probably best to disconnect battery earth before you start.

On your running issues, are there any other mods on the car - induction kit, dump-valve, for example?
