I think the 9 previous owners would put me off tbh.

The seats and Alcons are a real bonus, especially the seats. Cat C though is pretty heavy damage and just above being scrapped. I would be very concerned about a cat C, to be honest.

cat c can be as little as a head lamp and wing damage, if the insurance deem the car uneconomical to repair it will be put at cat c.

Wasn't this the one that some irish lads cobbled together from 2 other cars? There was a thread for it on here, those side rear windows are different to a normal P1.

Google cat c
Just for quick reference the difference is that a cat c car is an insurance write off, it needs a vic check to get it back on the road, and its had 9 previous owners, that should be ringing some alarm bells on a 10 year old car.

this is absolutely spot on it can be next to no damage cat d is obviously not as bad as cat c but regardless of how little the damage was its still on the register so either way affects the value quite badly. i think the number of owners is not a major issue as many people buy scoobys but do not realise the cost of running them and when they do they cant afford it and sell them on. obviously less is better but not as big an issue as most people make it out to be imho

I think 10 owners in 10 years is not good, think of it this way, 2 owners up to 7 years, car has accident, car is valued at 10k, thats 6k's worth of damage before it becomes a write off, so more than just a wing and front light cluster, car then has 7 owners in the next 3 years..... why? If of course you cant work that one out

A little story for you, back in 97 I bought an ex demonstrator 306 GTI-6, lovely car 6 months old, had it 2 hours when some d1ickhead drove through a red light caused 8.5k's worth of damage (before vat), car valued at 15.5k, became a cat c as they had to replace the chassis, that car has had 8 owners since the last time I looked (a few years ago now), it was never right after that, it just gets moved on and on because there is still an issue there.

I'd be tempted, as I love P1's, but wouldn't pay more than £4000 for it, plus any P1 without the engine rebuilt makes me nervous!

Wheels, brakes and seats would fetch £1500 +, gotta be worth 5k for parts alone.

Agreed Doc! At least 5K in parts, the Titanium Prodrive badges under the side indicators go for about 50 quid on flea bay!

£5900 for a cat C is a ridiculous price, I bet you could pay £1k more and get a straight P1 if not get one for the same price?

Thumbs down

F*ck a cat c, there's plenty of un-damaged cars on the road.

Damage occurred in 2007, seller has no other details of what was replaced and who carried out the work.

i was talking about cat c in general on any car and the status it brings with it, not this particular car,

but for the car in question, for example, wing, door, quarter panel, front bumper maybe 2wheels 2 tyres, suspension work, maybe a set of air bags, possibly a windscreen, possibly on top of all this you could have had engine damage if the cam belt was knocked off, add on top of that labour to remove, paint refit, geometry set up, add it all up at subarus prices, you do the maths.

the value of the damage hasn't got to reach the value of the car for it to uneconomical, it just has to be a percentage of it.

Indeed the car has to be pretty well fecked to get Cat D let alone Cat C ... I'd leave it well alone.

A car can be scratched, be categorized D and written-off. I have a Porsche which was recently categorized C and written-off - it has a dent in the rear panel between the lamps and it MOTd un-repaired.

SO much rubbish is written by people about ABI categories and the damage entailed.....

+1 some people **** them selves when they hear cat xyz and automatically assume a cat c is worse than a cat c when i personally have seen cars with the front end completely ripped off and were only cat d, but you get something trivial like a headlamp or broken door lock and its cat c.

From my original post thanx for the reply. Cat c doesnt bother me really as i currently own a cat c vx220 turbo which i have repaired myself. Cost of parts alone usually make cars cat c. Rear clam on vx about £3000 vauxhall. £400 on ebay......
There is another on pistonheads with 2.2 stroker engine, full rebuild etc for only 6k so £5500 for this is dear.
