need assistance!
im yet to buy a scooby! before i spend X amount of money, i need to know afew facts about the car before hand! ive heard it rumored that the 95 impreza falls fault to alot of engine problems, some sort of manifactures fault that all 95s suffer from. can anybody shed some light on this? also is it better to buy a used scooby between 40,000 - 60,000 miles on clock because by this point it would have endured all of its teething problems, again any light that can be shared on this would be much apreciated!
apologise for sounding like a complete newb on all of this. however i'am!
i dont know the 1st thing about the scooby and am relying on the knowledge of the gurus who inhabit this site to guide me by the hand.
other questions like, would it be better to buy an import? which year is found the most reliable scooby? intrested in a 97-98, prefering the model.
is that a good choice? and most importantly.
for buying a used scooby, what is the maximum mileage i should be looking at?
thanks for your time. now! all i have to do is figure out how to read the replys should i get any.

Hi
I can give you my experience of owning a Scoob, I purchased mine some nine years ago, was 8 months old with just 8k on the clock, it's now done 50k (just), the car has never let me down, I had the clutch replaced under warranty due to the known judder issue, this was resolved and has never caused me any more issues (not that it was bad anyway). I use the car daily for school run, and enjoy some spirited driving on a regular basis, so long as the car is warmed and cooled properly and has been regularly serviced then I don't see why other Scoobs won't be as reliable and such a joy to own as mine.
Be preparred for poor mpg if you drive it "quick", tyres last about 10-15k and should be replaced in sets of 4, servicing is every 6 months on the classic shapes, but usually only a minor inbetween, and as mentioned insurance could be an issue if you are a youngster..
I'd avoid heavily modded cars unless they have been done by people who "know", and just be aware if things go wrong in a big way they are expensive, but remember these are performance cars and such come with the price tags to run and repair. Before I bought mine I'd never kept a car for more than a couple of years (am 48 so have had a few), that should show you how much I enjoy mine, and once the Scooby bug bites..

Im on my third and i love them. First was a wrx l reg which i quickly got rid of because it was a bad car and i was just desperate for one. That was back in 01. I then had a my00 classsic which i kept for 3 years and modded spending a fortune and it never missed a beat.
I now have a version 4 sti which is a totally different animal and i love it. You get a lot more for your money with a sti. If you don't buy a sti you'll spend most of your time and money trying to make it one or look like one.
Imports are more to insure but imo it is totally worth it. Go to as many import stealers as you can and drive as many as you can. Then when you have a rough idea of what they go like look on here and other sites and get yourself a bargain.

thanks ever so much for the advice gents! it really is apreciated! im keen to get 1, and initially i was just going to grab the 1st that caught my eye. however! will wait out for abit pending, until i see 1 with a good service history etc. in terms of servicing itself! is it better to go to a place thats renown for servicing high performance cars, or will the local garage know what to do with it when i take it in? i really have no objection to driving a distance if i know the beast will benifit more from a garage that specialise in performance. again, thanks ever so much for your help. my mates where right by suggesting i get all the answers i need from the gurus on this forum, many thanks. Green.
