Tow Bar...

Tow Bar...
Am looking for a Towbar for a 2003 STI, has anyone who has one got a part number weather it be Subaru or any other make (preferrably removable without too much assel) as i keep getting told by people that they dont supply one for the WRX STI. Cheaper the better. (For trials bike trailer, NOT caravan)

Useful thread, and just when I needed the advice!
I'm planning to fit a towbar to my 05 STi soon. And no, I dont have a caravan either! I do however have a dog trailer and the thought of our two dogs wrecking the interior of the STi is too much to bear!
Does anyone have any pictures of removable to bars fitted to their cars?

hi just fitted tow bar to my 2006 sti saloon, for bike rack and may be caravan
totally invisible when towball is removed, this was the effect i was after,
i did a lot of looking round but many manufacturers did not cover the sti
understandable ,who would fit a tow bar one of the best looking cars on the
road!.i would!i did!
any way i decided on a genuine subaru part, talked my local dealer to give it
to me trade(7% off)total of £259.91 inc vat part no.L1010SE100
i did not buy electrics from them as they where extortionate,so booked it in
at local auto electricians £55+vat all in
on instructions on fitting there is a couple of cuts to bumper but none you can see
unless you lay on the floor and i did my own mod to rear diffuser as instructions
tell you to store diffuser away(in your garage)but i refitted mine
any have a look

Looks like a really neat job!
I was hoping to get away with the towbar only i.e not fitting electrics, as the dog trailer is quite narrow and cars behind can easily see the lights on the car when the trailer is fitted.
I presume it was reasonably simple to fit?

superb pics, i've been searching for ages for a decent close-up shot of a newage with hidden towbar....the socket swings away through that halfmoon cutout, correct?
btw, although you never went for the The subaru electrics, although expensive, are just a plugin adapter intercepting the rear cluster?

i do belive the bar is made by thule/brink,might be worth ringing a local towbar dealer might be cheaper!as for electrics if any of your lights or number plate are covered they need conecting/wiring in!

I spoke with the local Subaru dealer today and ordered the subaru detachable towbar and wiring kit. Managed to get the lot for £307 all in which seemed reasonable. Hopefully get it fitted over the weekend!

Just finished fitting the Subaru towbar. Quite straight forward, although we did the work over a pit which made it a bit easier! The Subaru electrical kit is really simple, just wire up the socket and plug into the spare plug at off side light cluster. I'm well pleased!

I'm only towing a dog trailer! The instruction booklet states the towbar has a max towing weight of 1600kg and a max. vertical weight of 75kg. The part number for mine is same as above i.e. L1010SE100.

i didn't get subaru electrics for 2 reasons 1 price and 2nd i wanted
the new single 13 pin socket as subaru only do 7 pin sockets N and S, a double 7 pin for caravan will not swing fully out the way,if you can see any of the towbar and electrics defeats the whole idea of removable towbar(invisible)which i wanted as i will be towing only every now and then.
i took mine to a professional electricians(mobile solutions in derby)did a mint job,no scotch locks, pleased with the whole outcome, now the scary thing will be towing and keeping me foot off the accelerater

about 1100kg fully laden,i think tis is the max the car can legally tow as it is
done on weight ratio aprox 85% weight of car or somthing like that, have a look quite amusing http://www.towsure.com/bespoke/outfit-matcher.html,
and as for 10 to the gallon who cares ,i'll park the caravan leave the kids and mrs at campsite and i'll rip up te country lanes(keeping to te speed limit of course, lol,and making sure i'll be doin 10 to the gallon without towing)i didn't by my scoob for economy, just the joy of driving it
