Hi all i know this is a rather irrelevant question on a performance subaru forum but my car is a 1996 wrx import and on MOnday this week, i put in 24 litres of v power at a cost of 124p and covered what i thought was a lowly 130 miles. I calculated that this equates to 24.6 mpg driving mainly off boost (with occasional right foot fun, on the tedious round trip journey to and from work of 28 miles and some other additional miles thrown in.

Is this good /bad/ average for my year and model?

I filled up on wednesday night, 41 litres, at a cost of just over 50 quid.

I have done 90 miles, I am showing just under half a tank! I'm running 320-320 so not standard, and i did do a run through some local lanes yesterday, so from 41 litres on mixed driving, i never get past 200 miles per tank

So to answer your question, yes, sounds about right.

I put 51 litres in mine the other day, red light on, so I imagine probably about 55 or 60 litres

I get about 28mpg on a really good day, average is roughly 300 miles to a full tank which is not bad. Mostly motorway mileage so steady cruising, some slow traffic etc.

how do people get 300 miles out of these? My MY99 Turbo 2000 consistently gets about 200 miles to the tank driving fairly conservatively most of the time, and it's only running 240bhp.

Think the earliest classics were 40 litres, 96-98 models were 50 litres and the later facelift ones (99-01) are 60 litres!!

I know my 99 RB5 has a dam big tank in it, defo 60 litres at least coz i filled it a while back and it held £72

Economy??....well i usually never break 200 miles to a tank, thats on mixed driving on TD05, mapped on a Haltech ECU with full exhaust, headers, 740cc injectors etc....I have even emptied the tank in just 120 miles

But sure....thats why I have a £400 daily runaround for the week days

Its a bit of struggle to get acceptable fuel consumption out of these things, but I suppose thats part of the naughty fun in owning one.

Mines an 02 STi PPP, totally standard, from a full tank its just under half now and Ive done just over 130 miles. At this rate I'm expecting somewhere in the region of 250-260 miles out of it, mainly steady motorway crusing but with the odd harmless play with an M5/350z lol..

I was told by scoobyclinic that a good remap can definately improve fuel consumption (not bad if it adds some oomph too) thats definately something to look at.

I get 32mpg on a run .... about 26mpg about town.

Someone on here has had a re-map and gets 500BHP returning over 30mpg!!

It does seem that a re-map can do blindingly amazing things reference your mpg returns ... as a side effect it can boost your BHP up by a minimum 20% too!! I'm a sceptic, as are all Car Manufacturers, but it's true - apparently

To be honest.... if you are achieving 30mpg with a 500bhp conversion, you have just wasted a load of cash!!

Why have you just wasted the cash? Sounded quite nice... but I imagine there must be a trade off somewhere.

(unless you mean he/she is not actually running 500bhp like they think..)

I'm wrong ... it wasn't 500BHP ..... it was 550BHP and 30mpg

I did find it staggering ... but the post is here, and the arguments for and against whether it is believable or not - I don't think it is possible myself.

I've just swapped my 2.0 N/A wagon for a Hawkeye STi (yesterday, in fact - and it's bloody awesome!) and the very first thing I did was fill up, do a bit of London driving and then drive 260 miles up north. I've just got back from filling up again to do some sums and have used 47.96 litres in 289.1 miles. By my reckoning, that works out at 10.33 gallons, which equals 27.99 mpg, which isn't far off what my wagon was doing TBH. That's with about 25 miles of city driving and the remainder on the motorway (with a little bit of booting it every so often). I reckon if I was careful I could get 30mpg. But who wants to be careful, what's the point of owning a Scooby to pootle about!

Bog standard STI Spec D by the way, no mods at all. Yet.......

Because I am suggesting you are not using the 500bhp!

I'm sure I could get 30mpg out of mine, but granny shifting and driving below 2500rpm does not appeal to me that much.

I have just seen who posted that on the other thread, but I suspect you need to put that statement in to context regarding the type of driving required to make such a return on fuel.

I can get 55+mpg out of my diesel if I REALLY try, but my normal driving returns 42-44mpg so that is the real mpg.

To be honest.... the day I try to achieve better mpg out of my Spec C, it will be time to flog it and buy my flat cap and slippers!

I'm pretty sure all turbo engined 93-01 cars are 60 liters, but NA models are 50.

I've definitely put in 56 or 57 liters at a fill in my pre-facelift classic a couple of times in the past, although I try to avoid letting the tank go that far down.

I was on absolute empty last night (thought I wouldnt actually make it to the station) and it only took 41 litres. Mine is a 97 Classic.

No, what Pete is referring to is a customers car of a tuner on here is running 500bhp and is capable of achieving 30mpg when off boost motorway cruising.

Biiiig difference once the turbo kicks in, but don't let that detract from Pedro's Labouresque spin

first proper motorway run since owning my '98 uk turbo wagon and filled up with tesco 99... managed 300 miles from just over 3/4 of a tank. i had to fill up then as i didnt dare have the light come on half way down the motorway with no station in sight

i was doing 50-65 nearly all the time with 2 traffic jams doing about 15mph for approx 10mins each.

anyway i worked it out i was getting 34mpg. fairly chuffed with that id say!
