Default Recovery time again

Oil spots up the back of my car

Smells transmission oil

Rear diff dripping

Oh the joys of Subaru ownership.

Just had a service and new engine??

Crackin.

See what my friendly AA man says in half an hour but it doesnt look good.

Anyone else had rear diff problems on Hatch STI`s?

I would think it has the same diff as all STI models???

Arron.

First the engine and now this.... hope Subaru sort it out quickly and with the mimunum of fuss.

Subarus are rock solid ... I would get a new one! Really, I would!

Is it stock standard? No re-maps or anything which could make it really unreliable?

Mine was faulty told the dealer this at its first service, dealer said all was fine.Took the tech out for a drive after the service and the diff locked up doing 70mph,me and the tech jumped out of the car abit shocked.Got it back to the dealership and left it,next day phoned to say the rear diff was naffed and needed a new one.A few weeks later when the engine failed and they had the car apart had to change the center diff as that had failed aswell. They also noticed that the front diff was making more noise than it should and that if it had got worse would have to fix that aswell, buy this time i lost interest and p/x it in.

Mine judders and always has done loading it up from say 3000 revs in a high gear makes a brrrrrrr noise and feeling.
i am getting pissed off with it now and may well be using the fit for purpose with IM
Not the dealers fault.
My last 4 Subarus have all been good...ok I did have an engine failure in 2002 but thyat was early PPP days.

Yeah it is.
Was just curious.
I wonder what sort of life it had during those first 1500 miles

Regardless though, its not right and I'd be hammering the dealer and IM over it.

Hope you get sorted satisfactorily

Shaun

I would never buy an ex demo car ..... not of any make/model - but certainly not one like this. Those first 1500 miles must have been miserable for the mechanicals.

We have all been on test drives, the car has 12 miles on it and you give it some welly ... whereas (if you are like me) if you own it it gets the very best of careful running in - mine, at 10 years, stands as an example of a good running in procedure.

Hope you get it sorted, I hope Subaru assist you. Good job you didn't mod it - or worse still - have it re-mapped!! It could well be claimed that the diff was designed to take the power the car was sold with ... increasing that power means that things go bang.

Pete I normally appreciate your posts and contributions, but this isn't one of your most constructive.

The guy has bought a legit warranted ex-demo 1500 mile Impreza from a dealer and has not modded it in any way and it has gone bang twice now in a big way.

I don't believe for 1 minute that any self respecting dealer would have allowed that car to be hammered so hard it could cause failures such as these.

Like quite a few other non-demo hatchbacks this car has had engine problems and now a diff problem - are you seriosuly suggesting that the diff problem could have happened as a result of those first 1500 miles.

I think we have to accept that some of these hatchbacks have issues and in this case I would be looking for a refund or exchange from Subaru - 2 major failures in 10000 miles is unacceptable in a car of this price.

Good luck to the OP with getting it sorted.

i had similar problems with a civic type r a few years ago, in the end just parked in front of dealers door and refused to move it until something was sorted, resulted in replacement car! kick up a fuss in the showroom on a sat/sunday if theres people in there the dealer cant help you more!

I do think that damage can be done to a diff in 1500 miles of test drives, absolutely I do.

Like I said - I hope it gets sorted, it's not right. Just a good job it wasn't modded - pheww!

The 25 miles driving from factory to dealership are just as dangerous on a new car.

How many more times do you want to mention about mods in a thread?

right .....great call from dealer yesterday straight after the car was delivered to them for the AA (great service there again)...it appears the rear diff was blowing oil out of the breather due to being over-filled at new OR at the recent service carried out last week so no major dramas.....phew!!
Car delivered back to my house from the dealer as a kind gesture....faultless quick service.
Thanks..
fingers crossed it will be ok from now on.
PS spoke to Paul at IM yesterday who was alos very helpfull
Great customer service Subaru UK so far thanks.
Arron.

Great news Arron.

Strange it has only just started blowing oil out the breather, dealer must have over filled it (didn't know it was a service procedure though) .
