Default Hello...another newbie

Hi guys,

Been looking for an STI for over 6 months and finally managed to find one. I was looking at the PPP but found something better, I think...a MY04 JDM WRX STI 2003 V-Limited. No. 417/555. (supposedly running 330 bhp)

Looks like its going to take some getting used to as i've just switched from an Audi A3 1.8t which is a much smoother ride but the STI is just so raw once the turbo kicks in!!

I'm looking at servicing it soon and was wondering if it requires the same fluids and parts as a Type UK STI?

Is the JDM STI much different to the UK version? (engine layout etc...)

Would like to learn more about the car and was wondering if there were any English guides available online.

Thanks

Welcome
The JDM cars from 2003 are completely different to their UK counterparts, they have quickrack steering, A-DCCD, rear wiper, twin scroll engines, different (better) internals, and some other bits and pieces (auto i/c spray for one).
Your car is based on the normal STI model and not the Spec C car, servicing is different to the uk models of that age, it retains a service interval similar to those of the late classic STI's, so 6 monthly/7.5k miles.
All the fluids are the same though for the JDM car (engine oil is 10w40 etc) but your best taking it to a dealer/speciallist who has dealt with JDM twin scroll cars before.

Thanks

I'm looking at getting an aftermarket panel filter and was wondering what the most commonly used/popular ones are?

Also do these cars have blow off valves or diverter valves

Are there any recommended online shops where I can get service parts from?

Are there many JDM STI owners on this forum....wouldn't mind seeing what mods people have done.

welcome to snet mate, the panel filters people use come down to personal choice ( i use a k&n) there are loads of good parts suppliers here are a couple...

Scoobyparts - Subaru Impreza parts and accessories

Scooby Clinic - Subaru Impreza tuning specialist

Just Subaru by Revolution

there are loads more in the trader section of the site.
and as for other JDM owners just have a look in the garage section or the members gallery.

The official STI one is probably the best for a new age JDM car, I made some nice gains on my standard Spec C but it is a service part and has to be changed so not exactly cheap either
These twin scroll cars have a recirc valve, its THE best one to have on there, DONT decat with out having a remap either, 3.5+k for a rebuild on one of these
I would also recommend getting a KS3 or KS4 (though the 3 is more than good enough) as this shows if you get any det on your engine (just google phormula KS3).
