Unhappy Time to treat the Scooby to a bit of TLC

Right after thinking long and hard about selling my scooby i just can't do it as it will be the 4th time and i've always come back

I should have circa £1400 to spend...BUT before i do anything i really want to do to it i have to do the following...

It needs a decent service-Engine/Gearbox oil, plugs and leads. Now i really want to do all this myself but the plugs are a pain in the **** and i havn't got right socket sets to do it the Oils i've done on all my scoobs/cars so i might just get some off oilman and do it.Sayyyyy Cheapest it will be..........£250? And for a garage? £400?

I have a Hi Spec monster 4 Pot upgrade and the brakes are best described as RUBBISH.My first port of call it to get some decent DOT fluid and get it all bled but i'm pretty sure it needs new pads.I've emailed HI Spec and they can do DS2500's for around £100 so........£180 all in inc fitting etc?

The lad who i bought the car off retrimed the interior in blue alcantara but it's all falling off etc so needs redoing. It's the inner door cards...and all under the dash and handbrake console etc.Going to see a pro at the weekend about this but i have NO idea on cost?.......Say £200?

Then to cap it all off i need new tyres for my 17" Prodrives. It's got Toyo Proxie4's on at the moment and i've been happy with them.BUT i'm thinking of getting second hand 18's with good tyres as i don't do much mileage then respraying the 17's and selling them on to make money back? 17" Tyres alone are £400 so 18's for £500/£550 then sell the prodrives for £200?? Maybe spend out........£400?

So that's £1180 at the dearest option which leaves £220 which isn't enough for sayyy an ECUTEK remap which is the only other thing i'd want to do to the car to make me want to keep it more etc.

I hate it when a car gets to the point of needing a shed load of money spending on it just to keep it on the road etc

What would you guys do?? I could sell it as is and buy something like a 330i beemer but i'd get jack all for it in it's current state as classic prices seem to be at rock bottom

Bit of a rant really but my wife dosn't really understand

I never know how to gauge classic prices, there can be a 2 grand difference in the same model! (UK turbo 2000) Are the prices low? Anyway, I'd rather keep the scoob than get a beemer, my mate has a 330i, and even he admits, even though it has half decent power (220bhp-ish) it just doesn't feel quick, slightly boring. I know what you mean though, the other day I was thinking of either doing a few things to mine or finding a few grand somewhere and getting a P1!! Would be silly to get a P1 though, I'm skint as it is!

Mate if you can do the oils yourself then you can do plugs easy. Just buy yourself a 3/8 drive spark plug socket from a motor factors with a UJ joint on it. Will be £10 tops. Also I would of thought interior would be a bit more than that depending on whether or not he can re-use the material. Good to see you're keeping it.

Codie i messaged him mate and it is off a saloon and the ad says it will fit any classic but it's off a 95 STI so the window switches on the door panels are different to MY00 UK Turbo shame as i would have well bought it!!!

Gaz that is a VERY good point mate.Stoff i will be selling the wheels IF i can find some 18's with really good tyres...and the plate is a large part of the cars identity it will be staying on

Anyone help me on the spark plug issue??

Well ive just spent over 1k recently on my 17 year old type RA ...new timing belt kit, oil change, tires & brake pads plus a few mods

Also you could change cars and end up needing to spend big bucks shortly after buying it ........keep the scoob, better the devil you know

You want a 16mm or 5/8 spark plug socket, both the same. You also dont want one with a massive extension because you will never fit that in there. Also you need a 3/8 drive ratchet and maybe a small like 2cm extension.

This is my 4th one now Bell and i've always wanted one that really looked the part For me the facelifted classic in either Sonic Blue or Mica blue is the best looking scooby of them all.Combine it with crystal lights..nice spoiler and wheels and i think it's looks great..plate just sets it off too!

I just wish it had the 320 brake that my last WRX did looks like i won't have any spare cash left over for more power but at least it will be in tip top condition mechanically.
