Default Type-R STi VI Import

Hello all - I've just put money down to import my first scooby from Japan and thought it was a good time to join the community.

Here are some of the few pictures I have of her:

Needless to say - I can't wait for the test drive!

:-)

I'm counting down the days :-)

Luckily, this was one of the early versions, built toward the end of 99 - which means she shouldn't need to go through the SVA tests :-)

A bit of a misconception here, it may not require an sva test but it does require being converted to the sva standard before being MOT'd for legal road useage, though a nice looking car

Thanks for the responses guys. Didn't realise the gauges were an option - maybe I'll learn to love 'em. I'm getting the car through an agent, so all paper work, conversions and MOT will be carried out before I collect :-)

how do you find a car to import mate? you do it through a website or a dealership? and how much did you pay if you don't mind me asking?

I went through Andy at 200BHPCars.com - very nice guy, who has been importing Japanese cars for quite some time.

He works together with his contacts in Japan searching a number of the local auction listings. From my initial research, I was expecting to pay around £8500 (before shipping + fees), but Andy managed to find her for just under £7000 - bargain!

With shipping + fees (including UK registration, modifications, MOT and road tax), she should come in at just under £7500.

fair play mate.. wish i had that kinda money to spend on one haha, i can't really complain with mine though

is there a reason why you wanted to get it imported rather than buy an import that's already over here? would have thought you could have picked a minter with a few mods and probably for cheaper?

whats the mileage on your one then?

I wanted to find one as close to the original factory condition as possible - a lot of the UK Type-Rs that I've seen have been heavily modified (although I'm sure there are a few good examples floating around).

Mileage is around the 60k mark which, for her age, is pretty reasonable - driven on a regular basis but not too much

Looks great Cluster. Im thinking about getting a sti type r version 6 but want to know whats the differance between that and the v-limited. I believe the v in v-limited stands for version and has blue seat and roof vent, but thats all I can see.

SVA long gone! Rear fog light needed, adjust front head lights and away you go!

Looks nice, good luck

Fog light should be getting wired up when she arrives on our shores - converting the reverse light rather than having a hanging fog under the bumper.

She'll be mapped asap - v-power all the way!

I'm pretty sure that mechanically, its similar to a Type-RA, although someone may be able to correct me on that one.

Produced to celebrate rallying success - those were the days!

Looks a lovely motor mate. At least you know what you're getting with it being standard.
Any plans for her?

For the time being - I'll replace the orange indicators with clear ones and paint the wedges white. Maybe look into re-conditioning/replacing the seats - they look a little worn, but that may just be the photo.

Would also like to give the engine a clean/re-paint to make it look fresh and new

Can't wait to see her in the flesh!
