Default MOTEC mapping/tuning advice?

Hi all

have got a mate at work who has just become the proud owner of a STi, he has had a few cars modded before (mainly Toyota) and swears by MoTec, for some reasoon he has asked if I know anything about them on Scoobies. My main experience with ECU stuff was Unichip on my old MR2 Turbo so i have got a clue really. Anyone on here know anyone that can map/tune them and is it expensive? Is it best to buy new or cana second hand one be flashed (no sure on terminology)

Any help would be great, at least if i can go back to him with some info i might look like a scooby guru

Best regards

Motec ECU's are available as a replacement ECU for the subaru (depending on model year). Unless very heavily modded these are a bit of overkill.

No real need for MOTEC if it's a newage as the OEM ECU is a very capable piece of kit and can handle most things

Hi

Try 'Mark' at Owen Development just outside Oxford @ 'Kingston Bagpuize' just of the A420 (Oxford to Swindon Road) Tel: 01865 821062 or 07890690375

They are Motec specialists, more for the race car's as very expensive in my opinion but the best!

Hope this helps?

Cheers Simon

You can try any subaru specalilists ie Scooby clinic, Api, JGM as above and Zen performance, or if your absoloutly minted RCM depending on where you live, then compare prices. But be carefull as there are some people that will sell you pirate copy material so would stick with the above companies!! Cheapest isnt always best.
Also check vendor for sale items at the top of page might spot a special offer!!

what year is the car?

the best ecu available for Subaru at the moment imho is Syvecs.. better than motec imho..

SimTek is also very good..

If it is a newage then the standard ecu is very capable and remapping that works very well to mid to late 400s were you can still use the original ecu but after market ecu then comes into it's own. Obviously you can go after market ecu on a standard car just depends on your budget, requirements and what year it is as to which is better option for the money.
