Car running like a bag of rusty nails
I have an 03 WRX with no real mods to speak of, apart from a centre decat and rear prodrive box. But its sounds like a bag of rusty nails at the minute. I'm assuming its just the cold, as it seems to quiet down and smooth out once the engine has warmed up. Is it just me or is this a common thing with the Impreza ?
Thanks

Piston Slap was common when cold on 1998 models ... not yours.
Hopefully you don't have thick treacle oil in it? Like 10W-50 or something? If so, change it for 10W-40 and it will run much sweeter in the cold weather.

Swap the Oil for 10W-40 Semi .... if you are concerned.
If the Service was done straight after you agreed to buy it then I would be slightly sceptical about how much effort was put into it (it eats into their profits on the sale of the car).
But if the service was commissioned by you, then you should have had the full works ... is the Oil still honey coloured - or black?

The oil looks pretty clean to be fair. As I say, it doesnt sound slappy so to speak, the only thing I can liken it to, is when I bought it they told me I could use normal unleaded, it sounds like when you run it on that, a little bit more raw, the burble isnt as clean. I hope that makes sense. BTW only one tank of 95ron went in, its been on VPower ever since As I say once its warmed up after about 5 - 10mins, its sounds fine again, and it has been about -1c - 0c when Ive been going to work at 6:30am.

Leave the thin oil in till the weather warms up a bit, then use 10W60 if you drive it hard, ignore the ignorant "treacle" reference as the xxW60 refers to the protection at high temperatures.

60!!!!
Yeah, right ..... like I said, TREACLE!!
You must be sapping 30 BHP putting that dollop in!
The people who built my car say 40 ..... that's way better than some hobbyist IMO.
