I have been a member of the forum for a while and i am looking at buying a classic 95 reg wrx sti, i was talking to a mate who has had a couple in the past an he was telling me that when i get one to give it a good service an that i should disconnect the crank sensor before i start the car after changing the oil, i have done a search on this an have seen mixed feelings about it and now im in 2 minds as to what to do buy the scooby or leave it an buy another pulsar, but i have always wanted a scooby.
Any help much appreciated.
Thanks
Mark

I think you guys are on about the "cam angle sensor" & not the crank sensor. (top near-side camshaft front cover;near the battery)
With the cam angle sensor unplugged the car will now not start thus allowing you to spin the engine over until the oil is circulated (usually 15secs or so).
QUOTE FROM A VERY REPUTABLE ENGINE BUILDER:
"The starter is rotating the engine at a speed of approx 300rpm, about 5 times a second. If the vehicle is serviced at 5000mile intervals for say 50,000miles and the above procedure (disconnecting the cam angle sensor) has not been observed, it is entirely possible that the engine will have been run without sufficient oil pressure for 2-3 seconds every oil change.
The simple maths prove that your lovingly serviced engine, if not treated as our instructions advise, may have been spinning without sufficient oil pressure for up to 30 seconds, OR 150 revolutions, if serviced 10 times in that period. Neither of which is to be recommended and in our opinion is a major contributory factor in big end failures."
[end quote]
Anyway I wouldn't let that put you off OP as its a really simple thing to do and you won't get the boxer rumble from a pulsar Gareth
