The old style camera would go active once the light have turned red and then if you go thorough them they take the pic and record your speed thorugh the red lights, however whether thay can prosecute as there are no lines in the road is a grey area.

A friend jumped a red light near his house and asked for the pic to be sent on which the speed was recorded but was below 30mph he got choice of 3 points or the speed awarness course, he took the later

New cameras (digital) just flash you regardless if your going fast or slow they take a pic as you go over the pad in the road as you go thorugh the red or green light and they will take a pic - no win situation

As above, they are programmed only to go off when the light is red. They dont do you for speeding, just for jumpin the lights.

i went through a solid amber/red light in nottingham and heard nothing ,i was doing slightly over the 40 mph limit too but didnt realise it had a camera next to it .
dont know if anyone has been to nottingham but its full of speed /traffic cameras
