Default Which FMIC ???

Hi Guys

I have a P reg WRX import
With VF22, Walbro, Full de cat
Getting Simtek fitted next month

Wanting to get a FMIC before, which should i get ??? Price ??? From ??? been told to keep away from a few of the ebay ones so im unsure ??

Or would i be able to run this power on the standard TMIC ???

Been told by a couple of mappers i should be looking at around 340 ish bhp safely, on the the VF22 and standard internals, gearbox etc !!

Thanks

APi, sell and fit Hybrid FMIc's, as we do almost any parts for most models of Subaru.

Another vote for either Harvey or API, whichever is nearer you.

STi8 TMIC would be my choice at the level.

Hybrid FMICs are the ones to go for if you do decide to go FMIC:

Don't start all that tmic x fmic argument again Bob That's been done to death.

The earlier cars [ as in this case ] with the big idle control valve on the rear of the manifold passenger side make it very difficult to get an STi 8 inrtercooler on as there is no space to work in.

Hybrid FMIC is a no brainer for a classic Impreza IMHO.

I have one, on an N reg and it's great.
Think about what you are going to do for a DV, I went blank, not in the mental sense but in the removed sense Not such a good idea on the VF22 allegedly, so perhaps a Forge recirc ??

Other thing is to invest in a good induction kit like the RCMS cone and trumpet, which I also have I can honestly say this product sucks

Bad idea to run a VF 22 with no DV It will be too fragile and probably break off some compressor blades. Forge VTA is what we'd use. Definitely NOT Bailey, Bailey springs are too weak on a Subaru.

The earliest turbo I'd run with no DV is broadly anything less than 10 years old.

The OP asked the question.

On this occasion with it being an earlier model (missed that bit) I may be inclined to agree with David a fit a Hybrid FMIC.

The dump valve or no dump valve thing is more down to the turbo type rather than age. Ancient TD05-16g here still blowing strong here with no DV. Early VF turbos are know to be fragile.

Certainly do not run a VF22 with no BOV. Personally I wouldn't run any VF22, 23, 24, 28, 29, 34, with no BOV. TD05 and TD06 are all good for no BOV if that is what you want to do. The VF22 is the most fragile of all the VF series and at some point it would be worth changing to a TD05 18G for instance. These are £650 new.
I can give you any technical information or back up you may require and if you are fitting yourself we can give you advice by telephone as dozens of people on here have already experienced. Fitting is £185 and you will get a really professional job and that is a fixed price inclusive of all sundries and takes a day. Arrive in the morning and drive out at teatime, job done.
If you are fitting an FMIC you need a remap or as a minimum your AFR's checking by some competent person with wideband Lambda.
