Default battery dead

The battery on my 2004 WRX STI has died in this crazy freeze.

Dealer wanted a laughable amount for a new one.

Any tips on which make to go for and where from?

I got one from my local Motor Factors .... my Subaru battery gave up after 9 1/2 years, so I was pleased. This won't last as long, but costs a fraction and has 3 year warranty.

I'd buy a good Battery conditioner and keep the battery you have and take it from there

The Citroen refused to start today at minus 12 so the family were stuck at home, my very expensive RCM supplied battery just about turned the car over but fired up LOL

At low temps Lead acid batteries do struggle !

I've got that CTEK charger and can vouch for it. My battery died a 2 or 3 years ago, so I got one and connect it whenever I'm not using the car for a few days. Its been fine ever since. I even ran the battery dry a few months ago and thought it was finally dead. I just refilled it, put it on charge and am still using it.

If not, as SSU says, go to your motor factor but get the best CCA and Ah rating they do.

540A CCA and 60Ah is a good target. Bosch Silver and Varta Asia seem to be the best without spending silly money. Tanya batteries do them for about £70 delivered.

I have a bosch silver in ma transit and it has problems starting it in these conditions (-19) in scotland, but i took the diesel filter of and it had froze. Bosch silver (60ah) battery probably good enough for scoob.

I'm considering an Evo 6 battery if mine dies. Lighter without the cost/drainage problems of a Redtop or Odessey.

I've got an Evo battery in my MY02 Bugeye........slightly smaller than the OEM jobby to fit around the APS front mount.

Still struggles at minus 13 LOL

Still have to keep it going with the CTEK

Does anyone know of a higher power battery that would fit the Impreza? Most seem to be 60Ah whereas I'd prefer a 85-90Ah if possible.

I bought one of Halfords batteries early last year.
It came with a 4 year warranty too.

My car was parked at Dublin airport for 3 nights and the temp was minus 9
It started fine for me

Considered the Halford one but its a lot dearer than an equivalent Bosch Silvertop with a 5 year warranty.

You need a higher amp one, not a 60ah, your alternator is a 90ah so your battery should reflect this

I can vouch for the halfords ones (HCB005), 4-year warranty. I went away for 2-weeks during the cold spell. When I left it was -6 and when I got back after 2 weeks the car started first time, just started with virtually no cranking

Maxautoparts.co.uk are very good on price as were andrewpage.com when I bought my Bosch silver from them 4 years ago.
Think the best rating you are going to be able to get in a oem size traditional type battery is going to be the Bosch Silver S5 005 at 63Ah & 610A CCA or the S5 004 at 61Ah & 600A CCA.
S5 004 is 242Lx175Wx175H
S5 005 is 242Lx175Wx190H

The Evo battery is what we use and recommend when time comes especiallly with a front mount intercooler, as it is so much smaller and makes heaps more space in that very congested area by the oil filler pipe, battery, air con pipes, washer bottle.

Power / ampage is good and we have had no complaints from customers about performance. £55.00 + VAT is correct.

We even make a natty alloy bracket to clamp it with. A-La Prodrive ones but with the better API logo prominent.............
