Question

Hi,

My car is due a service... I got the car from Listers in Worcester
with 27k on the clock, there is a Listers sticker in the window that says the next service is due at 35.5k miles so it's time to get it done.

But... my log book wasn't stamped for the 30k service, even tho Listers told me it _was_ done.

So... What do I do now?
Is it absolutely vital that Subaru service the thing at the expense of stamps in the log book? I realise that it helps resale value etc but I keep hearing nothing but bad stuff about dealers at the moment and part of me would rather give it to someone passionate about the car like TSL, ScoobySport, PE etc as they will look after it better than some ****** in a dealership.

I take it warranty is completely out of the window if it's not done by main dealers?

If I must use a dealer the nearest one is Cheam Motors - I've heard some good things about them but am still not convinced.

your thoughts?

ta,
Matt

You're 'supposed' to be able to get it seviced anywhere, so long as they use OE or better quality of replacement parts, I would tend to stick to genuine things like filters, that for one could be a costly battle if an engine went pop!

Thumbs up

Agree with Ron, as long as the service schedule is adhered to.
i sacked off my main dealer just before my 30000k service on MY00 because i wasnt getting the answers i wanted and the interest in me and my car.
it now goes to Falkland, 350 mile round trip but im happy and dont get the B/S i used to at the dealers!

Cheam motors have just done my sevice i was quite happy with it but i think next time i will take it to scoobysport. The car was detailed and i have found some scratches on the front guards looks like he has dropped the sponge or chamois and has'nt botherd to clean it. It is well worth the travelling if you know that the guys you entrust to do the work are enthusiasts and take prid ein how they deliver your car back to you
Cheers

I don't agree I'm afraid. IIRC the requirement for allowing fair competition is only for the manufacturers warranty. The 2 and 3 year warranty is not provided by Subaru, it's basically an insurance based warranty sold by International Motors, whose price is included in the sale price when new. As it is a third party warranty, conditions are set by the provider, not the manufacturer.
Regards
Chuck
PS Listers should have a record of servicing your car and so should stamp your book with the 30k service.

Matt,
Have to agree with Chuckster on this, if listers did do the 30k/24month service they should have no problems with stamping your warranty/service book. It should all be recorded and they should be able to reprint the itemised invoice if required. (Don't forget that the 30k is a major jobby and all lubes replaced so it's quite an important one!)The services should also be done within 1month or 1000 miles either side of the due time to keep the extended (year2,3)warranty valid. (same for extra year4,5 if paid for)
Don't know about all main dealers being '*******' I for one can vouch for Beechdale Subaru in Nottingham, they do a great job and make me feel that my custom is important to them and they are there to provide me with the best service possible.
It's a pity there does seem to be some 'sub-standard' main dealers out there but I'm sure there are plenty of duff independants as well, with a motor like the scoob I'd just want to be sure that the work is being done by someone you know is capable and reliable and for some this seems to be hard to find
Hope you work it all out,

I see that ScoobySport claim that their servicing maintains your warranty even though they are not an authorised dealer. Does any one know what the basis of this is ?

My thoughts: (a) IM are obliged as they can show that their standards are at least as high as franchised dealers ? (b) IM will make a special 'goodwill' exception due to their reputation ? (c) this claim applies only to the manufacturer's not to the extended warranty ?

Does anyone have any definite info ?

really difficult one this....

had my 1000 mile service done at a dealers (Days).....lack of customer care, and wasn't comfortable with what they did with my car...basically they couldn't be bothered and dismissed my comments.

the second service, I went to Scoobysport for, and to be honest was totally impressed, I could watch the whole thing from a couple of feet, the guys there aswered all my questions, and I could see the care they took, from a personal point of view, I know, every time I have been there, that they do exactly what they say, pass all their comments and recommendations on to you, and basically look after the car.

the warranty issue is a bit of a worry, especially as it is with IM now, but with my mods (decat, itg etc), my warranty is not such a big issue as far as servicing is concerned.

If I was looking for a car, that was nearing the end of the warranty period anyway, with no mods, I would rather have a car serviced by people with a passion for the car (proven by hearsay / other Impreza owners in my case I KNOW what scoobysport do and would look for their service stamp), rather than the 'Main Dealers', sounds mad, but thats mho.

I must add, that my body warranty wax was done at Lancaster in Sevenoaks, and they made a good clean job, and the engineers from what I could see, took care.....(even the guy washing the thing looked happy!)

so there it is...(p.s. I'm not paid by ss, nor do I receive any benefits......unless you feel like you really want to Pete etc.....lol)

Guys guys guys....

Read your warrenty book... it clearly states that unless the servicing is done by an authorised dealer.... its invalid.

Face facts... its simple really... if you want your warrenty, stick with good old Mr Subaru dealer - and dont believe any 3rd party people who tell you otherwise... cause they wont be offering to sort out warrenty work for nothing when IM refuse the work

I'm afraid that the good old "free warrenty" is free only until you get ripped off over 3 years by having to pay Subaru UK back with their "extravigant" service pricing. Thats how they make their money

EU law says...

Year one for UK cars.. go where you want as long as you're on time and parts used are OE or provably of the same quality.

Year two and three.. it's an IM warranty so they can stipulate.

Parallel Imports... Up to 01.. do what you like.. its a manufacturers warranty.. after 02 same only more warranty!

Cheers

Ive been to Listers found them Tops, Enthusiastic and price

went to a place in Wales and I like Wales I will pop my brand new P/drive STi7 round there one day to remind them of there loss
one bad experience and the consumer will lose confidence Oh aye

Problem is... who is going to take their dealer to EU court if they refuse warrenty work???

I certainly cant afford the costs - and it will take 3 years to get to court anyway!!
