Afterburner Vortex is a nice system.

For the front mount, the Hybrid GT Spec is a fantastic bit of kit and well ahead of the Autobahn ones. Hybrid GT Spec FMIC are used by many of the top cars here on ScoobyNet and also by the top tuners.

I've got the Autobahn front mount on mine. Pipework quality isn't 100%, but it's ok

Would be better spending more on a better one, all depends how much you have to spend

Vortex is pretty loud.

To give you an idea of how long it takes to fit a Hybrid FMIC - the garages we supply charge 3 hours labour.

Email me for a PDF of the fitting instructions

Pipework is very good - in fact the whole kit is great.

When tuners with virtually unlimited budgets are choosing Hybrid, you know it's a great product

I know of two people at sheffield scoobys club who have the Autobahn fmic kit fitted and they are both excellent fitting and performing kits.i personally watched one of the kits being fitted and it went together like a dream, all pipe work fitted without any problems, all the bends and angles were spot on and the quality of the clamps and hoses were very good for the money, save yourself over £100 mate and get the autobahn.Stay away from the £199 and less ebay specials, you are asking for trouble with these cheap kits..Just my honest opinion and experience for what its worth.

Got Autobahn on mine, had to lose the fogs and trim small amounts off the car where the fogs mount, also had to cut the inner wing. Other than that, went on ok. Still on the car now around 3 years later, no problems.

Looking at cost of them I will probably upgrade to a Hybrid if thats what people recommend as the cost isn't much more. I'll be fitting charge temp sensors soon, pre and post cooler so I will have some comparison results when I swap to a hybrid. Like I said though, Autobahn is holding up fine so its not on my list of priorities to get a new cooler.

I have the Autobahn on mine (previous owner fitted it).
No problems at all - not a bad bit of kit. kept the fogs ...only the bumper was cut.

Given the choice between the two bits of kit - Hybrid every day.
I will eventually be running big power and prob upgrade to the Hybrid.

That website looks interesting. Can't seem to find an address, company details, or contact details.

Anyhow, we are also Autobahn dealers, but it's pointless trying to sell their FMIC next to the Hybrid as the Hybrid is by far superior in every way.

Many of the top cars and tuners run Hybrid for a reason.

£130 in tuning terms is peanuts - do it right the first time IMHO.

Hybrid FMICs - Largest Official Stockist - Unbeatable Prices
We are fitting these all the time. The charge is £185 and we are Hybrid Pro Installers and Technical Advisers and have been for the last seven years.
Fitting time is approximately six hours.

Autobahn direct is another one of Flat-4 onlines alter egos isn't it (sorry if I've tarnished a perfectly good company with that statement) but I seem to remember that in a thread not so long ago. I got my Autobahn FMIC for £199 delivered from Scoobyworld about a year ago. All easy to fit on my own, apart from the pipework. Terrible fit on mine. Had to put a cut in one of the pipes to get it to line up. Used the original black pipe on the inlet manifold side until I could get a new blue one ordered. Works alright though!!

I've got the autobahn kit on my MY98 Type R thats running about 350Bhp and its running fine. Fitting was OK but I had to cut (and swage) a couple of the pipes and space them with silicone hose, also the 90 degree bend to the turbo had to be cut. My car is fitted with A/C so the pipework was a tight fit between the fan and the cam cover so I had to modify it a little. The only really noticable difference is the lag due to the extra pipework. Dont forget that you will need an induction kit (as the pipework goes straight through where the air box sits) and a VTA or modified dumpvalve.

I got my silicone hose from here
Silicone hoses.

And heres a fitting guide

Helpful post mate!

My concern is this issue of lag with yours. Having gone from a MY99 std intercooler to a Hybrid, I (hand on heart) can't say I noticed any increase in boost threshold or lag. I think the increased noise from the induction and turbo may hoodwink people into thinking the car is slower to respond as you hear the turbo spooling before the action starts, so might be inclined to think, well there's the noise, where's the action! In point of fact the action is where it's always been, it's just that now it's arrival is greeted with more of a fanfare!

I did a bit of digging around before getting my Hybrid FMIC and considered the Autobahn, but pretty much everyone I spoke to said it was...lets be polite... poorer quality than the Hybrid. THe person who installed my Hybrid (he doesn't sell either the Autobahn or the Hybrid, but has fitted both) dismissed the Autobahn as " an ill fitting piecce of junk" People I know that have one, say it works fine but was a pain to fit....they also tend to speak more of lag......which makes me wonder about quality. In contrast the Hybrid is a proven performer to the extent that mappers have commented that it makes units like the APS look VERY over-priced. Maybe Autobahn have improved since, I don't know...

Hybrid every time, as far as I'm concerned.
