Default Ever wonder what happened to the pride and joy?

Or the wife's in this instance. Taken 3 years ago.

and now

1988 PORSCHE 944 TURBO SILVER ROSE 952 on eBay (end time 26-Oct-09 10:48:58 GMT)

Very sad about the owner, and the car, tho mechanically it is still in good condition apparently. Has only done 4k miles since we sold it so probably only needs a good service.

Wife is gutted and wants her baby back....

As she is now

Yeah, she looks rough. Apparently the guy who purchased it from us died shortly after, and the car has just been sat on the road for nearly 3 years. Looks rough but I bet the mechanicals are as good as they were 3 years ago. The car had a full rebuild by Hartech Automotive in 2000 at 100k miles including an engine refresh, shells, rings etc and new standard Koni adjutables and recon brakes all round. The total bill came to £7k! and it was bloody quick, still miss the acceleration, our Scoobs can't match it.

We put most of the subsequent 40k miles on it before selling due to wife giving up work. You can just make out the front of her green Scooby in the first picture.

Very sad....

Sad to see things like this. I looked after some of my cars so well that I don't think I would want to see them now just in case.

Oh many times the loss has been lamented.

It was our second. The first was pre facelift similar to yours, 2.5litre lux. Ours was slow but bags of character. Wife wrote it off in Peterborough so I bought her the Silver Rose to do the job properly next time LOL Difference like going from 1.1 escort to RS turbo. From memory the lux posted 60 in 8.2, the Rose 5.2 But it wasn't until 60 that she STARTED accelerating. Never did find out the top speed, kept running out of track at around 150. Reports of Roses in germany exceeding 160mph. And the brakes were awesome, the ABS could be activated at 120 IN THE DRY! Found the back end could be a bit snappy when the turbo cut in, even with the LSD

Yeah, could say we miss it

Waiting to be slagged off as 944's could not possibly be that fast....by people who have never driven one

But surely, those guys always know best?

Never been in a Turbo, but my Dad took us out for a test-drive in a then-new S2 (3.0 litre, 210 bhp?). I was squeezed up in the back. All I remember was smacking my head on the roof-lining every time he gave it the beans. I have to say that I was impressed.

Still got a soft spot for a 924 Carrera GT.

I still regret selling my M758. Without a doubt it the best frontrunner that Ive ever owned. I also regret selling my 968 CS too, but thats because theyre SO over-valued now (worth more now worn out thean when I sold in the 90s!); as the '88 Turbo S was a better car in every respect (apart from the lag, obviously).

The studio check seats are good, Everything else is par for the course (apart from the damage and the salvage yard writing on the windscreen, obviously). It might be a reasonable buy for £3,000; although that depends on the satate of the sills, which are either a massive problem, or about to be a massive problem on virtually every 944 now...

That's Bugundy Plaid actually LOL, and the whole car was immaculate 3 years ago

Sills were resprayed and injected with waxoyl just before I sold it, so stands a chance...
The pictured rust looks like the trailing edge of the front nearside wheelarch

The problems go hand-in-hand though. There was a time when any rust around here indicated poorly repaired accident damage. Now though, every 944 Ive seen has a problem to some degree, and most needing to have a lot of money spent soon, if not now. That wouldnt put me off at the right price though, because youll only need to do it the once. Rose Silver is a pig to match too, of course.

Not all M758s had red trim you know? Mine did, but I quite liked it as Id already had a burgundy and Alpine White car. Ive seen a couple with black leather sports seats; one was Rose Silver and the other Guards, which looked brilliant.

If you compare the trim with a 'studio' car youll see that its the same, irrespective of what they call it. All studio checks are impossible to buy now, unless youll pay for 50+ metres to be woven, so the good seats are certainly in its favour.

The white car is a series two, look at the flush fitting windscreen. Series one cars had recessed screens with an aluminium trim. Id guess that that is a 1986 model year car, whichll have an oval dash and flush screen, but which shares the wheels 23mm offset with the series one cars. Thats why the later offset D90 wheels arent filling the arches, requiring 30mm spacers.

I cant explain the terrible radio aerial on the offside rear wing though; whatever possessed anyone to fit it there? Series two cars have it integrated into the windscreen and series one cars have an aerial fitted to the top of the nearside front wing.

And the screen wipes in the correct direction. I just looked at the front bumper, been a decade since I had an early one LOL

Blimey, just remembered I got a set of reconditioned 15inch teledials in the loft. And a Burgundy Plaid passenger door panel, and a sunroof bag. Really must ebay that lot

Sunroof bags are rare, although burgundy cars are rare too.....

Well someone just bought the old girl for £2999.

Knowing the history, add in another grand for a respray, and I would say he has a bargain. Was seriously tempted myself but I have too many unfinished projects on the go at the moment. RS turbo, wifes classic engine, shed roof, rewire the garage, and on and on....

Maybe would still have if no one had bid and I could get it cheaper.
