Default smell of fuel an 150miles from 30litres!?

Hi all

My cars a 97/98 classic and as i say its cars fine but there is a smell of petrol near the back of the car when i stop and im getting 150 miles from 30litres of V power in normal driving.

Fuel pump? its a walboro that I had fitted 2 years ago.

The problem started when i recently fitted an Sti 4 tmic, magnex headers an swapped from a ninja back box to my old WR sport box could these be causing it to run too rich? need a re map on my unichip? The car seemed to come on boost alot harder higher up the rev range.

I cant find any signs of a leaky tank an no smell of petrol in the engine bay.

Help...........

Here is the thread on how I did it. Replacement fuel pipes

It is really easy to do. really straight forward. Next time you fill up check behind the rear wheel to see if is dripping.

I get around 40miles to £10 (stop start around town. I live 1.4 miles from work and have to stop about 9 times.)

I dont feel so bad now...........or maybe we all have leaks
Ill fill her up tomorrow an check

I took the cover off the fuel pump in the boot and theres no real smell of petrol around it either havent undone the bolts, rubber pipes or electrical connector yet. Take it the possible leaky gasket would be pretty obvious an easy to sort to a ham fisted mutt like me

150 miles from 30 litres is about right,i put 20 litres in a time and get anything from 80-120 miles from it.

so 10 more litres would see me about 50 miles so not losing any i reckon, maybe fuel vapour not actual fuel you can smell

sounds like a bit of over fueling, not that im an expert! and that is not a bad thing.
It would also depend on what you call "normal driving" iv'e had as little as 90 miles from a tankfull..
