Question

Is it free?

If not how much?

When can you go?

Can you just "turn up"?

Just saw road signs for it - its only 10 miles from my house so thought id make the trip!!!!

Cheers,

Jza

Question

I can't speak from personal experience, but it might be worth having a look at this thread on the Evo Forum http://www.evo.co.uk/forum/topic.asp...=General+forum .

Martin.

I tested my race car there 4/5 years ago, I had to ring up and book it in advance. Its not really a race circuit, just a series of airport roads and a main runway. It supposed to be a proving ground, i.e. to test out equipment, when I was there Bentley and Lotus engineers were testing road car modifications and had coned off part of the main straight. So I'm not sure you can just turn up and thrash your car around.
It cost about 15-20 quid an hour if I remember rightly.

Probably best to get involved in an organised track day.

I've been twice on organised corporate days and it is correct to say it is a proving ground but there is a circuit around the main airstrip (the strip is also used as a nationwide emergency runway !!!) as well as other driving areas. (Mini circuits - off roads etc).

For the seasoned track driver the circuit (about 1-3/4 miles I think) is probably Mickey Mouse, for people like me the best part of the circuit is that it is virtually impossible to wreck your car, no barriers, plenty of run-off etc etc.

The runway is the widest in the UK that you can drive on, IIRC... And it's also getting on for 2 miles long, I think. In the dim and distant past when doing car proving work, I got the Montego estate 'support car' up to around 120mph down that straight.

Ah, the good old days. No idea what it's like now, though!

There was a seat trackday at bruntingthorpe last weekend, have a look at the seat forum thread

http://www.seatcars.net/forums/showthread.php?s=f1e1f37b7a992d39baebc52038224f8b& threadid=3935

They where very negative about the quality of the circuit, nearly every car now needs a resprayed front end and new windscreen because the track was covered in stones. Also some brand new cars were... wait for it parked in a dangerous place on the circuit screaming out to be crashed into, they even had the keys in the ignition.

Yes I know the one. He was really flying, lapped me early on, but I was just warming up (that's my excuse anyway)

Let him by later in the day and he didn't lap me again, so he must have gone home !
