I did it finally.. STI V5 in Japan
Living out in Japan and two years without a car so bought the bullet.
Went for a Classic STI V5.
Picasa Web Albums - Ian - Scooby First ...#
Before anyone says I know it has the "******" lights but I actually don't mind them - I'm definately not going to pay to change them at the moment.. more tasty things to buy (KFC excluded)
Already has some basic mods - exhaust, coilovers and induction kit. Exhaust failed the Shaken (Japanese MOT) noise test so it now has a strange looking bung in the tailpipe which I will take a pic of soon but sounds great now - not too loud. Believe it is a full system but taking it to a local tuner on Monday. Probably going to get a decat (more then one cat?) and just get the original ECU mapped for those mods. Possibly a Walbro and up the boost a little bit as well (with EVC or similar)
First impressions are the grip is amazing! Corners so well. No wheelspin (maybe I'm not doing it right :-)
Having previously owned a modified 200SX S14 I have to say the power as standard doesn't feel quite as quick but it goes forwards instead of sideways
My 200 only had about 250bhp but I guess it may be lighter and the power loss from the RWD over 4WD may be less? Need to get the power up a little
Any comments on planned mods? I would imagine I am in the right place do get some decent parts! A lot of the tuning mags like Option are showing pics of the new HKS EVC S - any experiences?

I thought those wheels were standard?
Thanks for the compliment. Unfortunately the previous owner already fitted an induction kit so the best I can do is purchase some kind of box to seperate the hot engine air and reduce heatsoak. 310 bhp sounds great!

Hi guys,
Noticed a few things today..
In 2nd gear it seems to hit about 1.2 bar boost.. a little less in other gears. Is that normal? Shouldn't it be the same in all gears? If I fitted a boost controller would that control any spiking?
Also went to a local tuner who seemed to be more into Skylines and 200s buy the look of the cars outside. Nice enough but things kind of got lost in translation.
I wanted to de-cat the car but he said if I did (new front pipe by HKS (£113) I would have problems with boost spikes? I said couldn't I fit a boost controller to fix that but he said no.. implying to me that you cannot remove the car (which from the posts on this website I know to be crap!)
So... what to do.. I was a little dissapointed.. they also only seem to sell HKS Fcon or the Apexi PFC (which I know is good) but I wanted to get the original ECU mapped for a lot less using SIMTEK (?)
Advise please oh wise people!

Oh.. and some new pics taken today..
Will be removing the exhaust plug thingy that was needed to get it through the Japanese Shaken (MOT) as I guess it zaps power.

I'm not sure about the petrol mate.. no one said anything but I always like to put the best in so went for the Hi-Octane stuff.. I understand even their standard stuff is higher octane then ours?
Glad the last owner chose decent wheels then - I like 'em!
What do you guys think about the whole front pipe/decat thing?
