I had guessed as much, im hoping for a 300bhp STI look alike, fortunately it already has the spoiler and poss getting wheels. What will i need to get to that figure from 225bhp?

You can get to 280bhp with a full decat exhaust, remap, and a sti paper air filter.

To get more you will need to upgrade the turbo and i think the injectors. Popele normally put the sti turbo on there wrx which is a VF34 turbo and you can get around 330bhp with the vf34 turbo including the above

I love the fact that my WRX looks understated on the outside, but has STI performance. It cost me under £2k to get it there, but the car cost £7k less than an STI.

However, I hate to say it, but if you wanted STI looks and performance from a s/h WRX, it would have been easier and cheaper to have bought an STI. The reliability, insurance and resale would all have been better, too.

Whats s/h mean? 300bhp is a total power figure i have in mind so i ca save up for the relevant prts rather than splashing ou for an STI now. plus my insurance is bad enough seen as im only 22

I think he means second hand. Im 22 aswell if you dont mind how much you paying for your insurance. Im paying £1900 on a 52plate wrx. But only third party fire and theft

Yes, I did mean second hand. The point being a 53 plate STI is only £2-3k more than a WRX which is at least what you need to spend to get it looking and going like an STI.

Fair enough if you couldn't afford to buy an STI outright and want to do it in stages. It is good fun modding, but there are a lot of people on here that regret spending loads on their cars and wishing they'd just bought an STI in the first place. (Not me; I'm more than happy with my WRX.)

Sometimes the insurance for a standard STI is less than a modified WRX.

Im thinking the same. Ive been looking at bugeye stis and they are going for about £6500. Im going to just buy a sti because my wrx is totaly standard at the momement engine and body wise and i think the sti will be a better start. (Better brakes, engine, 6 speed box etc)

Welcome
I've had fun modding my WRX (also a 53 plate) but as others have said, you can end up spending a lot more in the long run than buying an STI in the first place.
All those saying about insurance costs are less, you are aware that unless you're telling your insurance company about the mods your insurance is invalid? Fair enough not declaring a new set of alloys but performance mods etc I would seriously consider telling your insurance co. cause if they only need the slightest excuse not to pay out!

Yeah im clued up on insurance, wont mess that up.

I get what people are saying but it took me a full afternoon to get a quote for less than £2500 so an STI would of been silly. maybe in the future??

You need to dump the whole catted exhaust system (inc. the up-pipe) then fit a better fuel pump and let Andrew Carr map it using Open Source software (=300 bhp)

Then fit an adjustable rear anti-roll bar and drop-links to kill the understeer.

Job done an STI in WRX clothing.....

Well almost !

LOL

This is just what i did, mines making 286bhp and 308 lbft of torque

Next stage mods will be an Andy Forrest afp4h turbo (recommended by Andrew over a vf34/35) and adjustable fuel pressure reg so i don't have to change the injectors, should be looking at 330+bhp with similar torque

Andrew has been mapping subarus for over 6 years iirc. He is based in Preston but will travel, i got mine mapped by him a couple of weeks back and i am very happy with the results, i don't know if he has a website.

Do you need an aftermarkt ECU to remap the engine or can the standard item be mapped?

i've checked and dont think he does have a website so how would you contact him? anyone got an email address or anything?
