Default Advice on Cambelt service

Hey up

My cambelt service is due for my '05 wrx ppp. Now my question/dilemma is to whether change the cambelt tensioners along with the cambelt?

It will cost approx £350 for a cambelt & service or nearly £600 including the tensioner.

What have you guys done?

I was thinking of taking it to prosport in stockport for the service.

Any advice/comments is greatly appreciated.

Regards

Prosport should be able to give an objective opinion on the condition of the tensioner/idlers and advise accordingly. There's no need to change them just for the sake of it (unless the cost is of no problem whatsoever?)
Mine were fine at 5 1/2 years and 31k but as you are obviously approaching 50k (?) it might be a different story!

Hi, Just had mine done a few months back 04Wrx and it needed a new tensioner as it was weeping oil and just the one small idler between the tensioner and the top right cam pulley.
The tech said they change them if they are weeping or noisy.
Just trust the people you choose for the work, im sure they will advise you whats what.

he said mine didn't need changing

Cheers for all the responses. I think in that case I will stick to the service & cambelt change & if the garage say it needs a tensioner then so be it!

Do it your self IMHO! £200 for the Cambelt and another say £80 for the service!

I done my cambelt for the 1st time on Saturday just gone! and I always service my own cars so I know what parts are "really" being used!

Each to there own though!
